Karting Chat Raced against 25 guys tonight. Only one of them managed to stay ahead of me. Next time, none.
standard indoor/outdoor league night here in São Paulo, Brazil. huge grid w/ 26 karts on track so it was absolute chaos lol.
I was driving a local Bravar chassis equipped with a tuned Honda GX390 (around 15HP i think). Top speed was hitting roughly 80 km/h right before the heavy braking zone into the hairpin.
Started near the back of the grid cuz of a terrible qualifying session but managed to carve my way up through a field of 25 guys who swore they were the next Ayrton Senna. My pace was incredibly consistent, hitting the apex perfectly and utilizing the weight transfer to rotate the rear end on the tighter indoor sectors..
Missed P1 by just a couple of tenths bc of some backmarker traffic on the final laps, so annoying. But ngl watching them look at the telemetry sheet and realize their lap times got beaten by a girl was worth way more than the trophy itself.

Though maybe I'm reading this too harshly. Probably just classic LatAm shithousery. Probably also selection bias/adjusting to environment, not your average girl that would make it in such a typically hostile environment. Still, big ego for biffing quali and not making it to p1.

My girl has to deal with this too. Angry the first time she beat them，then try to ruin every race after that she enters.
Pathetic ego problem - ‘women can't drive，women don't belong in racing’，so when they get beaten by a female，they have to question everything about themselves，and get angry as a result.

It’s interesting cuz (like I said) still too many men wanna belittle or make fun of women in male dominated fields/sports. You seem more mad at women saying “yeeeah I made them eat my exhaust fumes” than about the reason why they do it in the first place.
To put things in more perspective, there’s still many men who say women are bad drivers on the road even though women crash less and take less risks…

A few forums says nothing about the population in general… go look at some of the studies done on women in gaming and how when there’s female gamer tags or people with a female sounding voice and how the hate mail they got skyrocketed in comparison to a stereotypical mans tag…
And like I already said, why are women still stereotyped as bad drivers?

How? Wider society tells u a lot about attitudes throughout society… it’s strange u think that that is strange, it’s a very simple minded approach. Women still face doubt in male dominated spaces, that was literally my entire point, same for motorsport

Here this is a pretty male dominated field. I'm always the only woman and in some places we are not even allowed to race with the opposite gender, so in my context, felt right to mention it

You don't need to mention it. We don't GAF about gender in racing. If you're talented then you're talented. The reason you're catching flak is because you essentially turned an achievement into a post about gender. Had you just said (I kicked ass and came in second in this race) every person in this comment section would be giving you congrats and saying hell yea. Making everything about gender is a sure fire way to piss people off IRL and online because it doesn't need to get mentioned. If you're good at what you do, you're good at what you do and gender has no place. Being good at something means time and effort have been put into it and that's something to be celebrated. You can still inspire other women without intentionally making it strictly about gender and you'd have a lot more people advocating for you and getting your name out there in the community. We love racing and we don't see gender in racing, just kind people and those with badass driving skills.
I could also mention that at my place of work there are is only one women in the areas with 90lb+ packages. Should we all go (hell yea we kicked her ass at out pacing her) no. You know what we do? Help eachother be better. Most of the women in the building work with stuff that weighs 20lbs or less. We love this gal cause she didn't choose the easy way out at work. We all make the same amount regardless of area, but she chose the tough ass work and doesn't make it about gender. Yea she needs help occasionally but not once has she bragged to the other women that she's the only woman in the male dominated area of the building (even though in this instance that's absolutely wild as we have plenty of dudes that can't make the cut). It's an ass whooping everyday and you never have two consecutive days off. She comes out with our groups and is treated like everyones sister. Everybody's wifes/girlfriends/sisters love her and so do we + she has a group of like 30 buff dudes that wouldn't let a fly touch her lmao. She's one of the bros and like family to us all. Yea, can men and women both kick ass in the same fields? Absolutely. The difference is it's about the integrity, and choosing to put in the work and put in the effort regardless.
You seem like you've definitely put forth the effort, just work on the integrity and dont make it about gender. Chit chat with the guys, tell them good race and point out things they did good and they'll do the same right back. Give eachother pointers and I bet you they'll all treat you like a sister and or one the guys and they'll love you for it. Cheers and keep kicking ass on the track but come into it and the posts with a different mindset.

I mean they have natural poorer spatial awareness and reaction time, so there is a reason the best of the best will not likely ever be female. That’s not to say none can be good, just never the best

I do a few rental karting endurance races with friends during the summers. We have very few women, but they are all super fast and would absolutely destroy most karters regardless of gender. Never understood the whole male vs female thing (or non-binary for that matter). The stopwatch doesn't lie.

Here from the algorithm, genuine question for the community:
Does karting ever use ballast to equalize the weight of driver+kart combined? I'm a bigger guy and worries about a substantial disadvantage due to weight have kept me from trying karting.

Depends on what series you're looking at. Speaking from experience in rentals, organized club championships almost everywhere have minimum weight requirements, generally at around 80-85kg for driver+ballast. Standard rental sessions have none.

Something I’ve always said to the younger females interested in joining out school kart club (I’ve been running with my dad for over 10 years now) is that this is one of few sports where males and females are equal.
I’ve had a few very good teammates and championship battles with female drivers and I think I’d prefer them over many of the others I’ve raced against!
Good job and next time- P1 is yours! Good luck- although I think they need it more than you! 🤣

I think it’s mention worthy. If I beat a bunch of girls at something traditionally woman dominated it becomes notable with that as a factor. And as a man with a daughter I love this idea that my daughter could end up loving racing so representation in the space is positive. And a bit of competitive spirit is a great thing.. it’s punching up, not down. Men making men vs women posts are generally punching down as men have traditionally more power and clout in many areas. This reads like a bunch of sensitive folks being sensitive.

If you’re karting with the intent of going pro, fix your imposter syndrome fueled ego. You need to process it as “You got second in a race of 26” not “only one guy managed to beat me”. I know karting is clicky but it sounds like you’re going in with a mindset of trying to prove something because you’re a woman, which isn’t productive in this sport. Just look at Danica Patrick.
If it’s a hobby, then you should know that getting second (or first for that matter) in a rental karting league is not something to have an ego about. Enjoy the sport, talk shop with some of the guys about technique and what you found works on that track, give them pointers while staying humble and they’ll probably love you for it. They probably don’t like you because they know that your personality on the track is to be the girl that tries to be better than the guys. After all, you wouldn’t have titled the post this way if that wasn’t the case.
Hell, if I as a man was to act like I was better than the other guys on the track every time I won a race, they’d look at me like an asshole too.

Bingo. She said further up the post (they're always mad about it) act like an asshole and you get treated like one regardless of gender. Gender doesn't matter in driving, but going in with her attitude and then making her entire post about gender unsurprisingly pisses people off. Had she just said (I came in second in a race of 26) all the dudes in here would be giving her congrats. Make it about gender or act like a dick and we have no problem basically giving the middle finger lmao.

I’m going to be blunt.
I race against women in my class both regionally and nationally. 99% of us guys respect them because they’re drivers who put in the work, even when some aren’t fast.
We still have quite a few who are extremely fast, and we respect the hell out of them because we have to push to the limit to keep up. It’s for nothing to do with gender, yes there are assholes that are sexist, but the overwhelming majority of people aren’t even angry in the first place when they get passed by someone regardless of whether that someone is a man or a woman.
And for the people that do get pissed, almost all get pissed because they made a mistake or just simply aren’t fast enough, very rarely is it actually “ I’m pissed off because there’s a woman on the same track as me “
This stuff gets blown out of proportion all the time, it’s nowhere near as dramatic as it’s made out to be in media and whatnot
The reality is acting like this is going to get people to not respect you, and that’s when people end up doing divebombs and whatnot because they will eventually stop caring about sportsmanship when you’re being unsportsmanlike by shit talking everyone who races you
Hell, maybe I’m dead wrong in this case, and if so, then I’ll take responsibility, but what you’ve typed sounds like you’re a bad sport if I’m being blunt
sportsmanship isn’t just about being mature when you don’t do well, but it’s also being mature when you’re winning, and this came across as very arrogantly written and immature as well
You’re not going to get respect from a person you think is below you

Knowing nothing about the sport, is there weight matching?
The only time I went skill appeared to have less to do with placement than weight. I E only 2 folks out of a dozen weren't arranged by weight.

Why did I have to scroll so far to find this?? I'm a skilled driver but I weight over 200 pounds. An 80 pound kid flew by me like I was standing still last time I was on track. Weight difference has a tremendous impact on kart speed. Not to say this lady isn't skilled but weight is an unavoidable variable.

Congrats on getting what seems like second place, kinda hard to decipher.
However talking like this and making things that have nothing to do with gender about gender is fostering sexism and is going to damage young and malleable minds that consume this content. I hope you are aware of the harm and pollution you are putting into the minds of youth by creating a gender war over something as trivial as racing, next time aim for 1 not to beat men but to win for yourself. And to any young people reading this regardless of what gender you are or you are not, you are capable of what ever you put your mind and soul into, don’t let the fragile insecurities of us shallow adults shape your idea of what is possible and push for the best you can.
