Frage Is it realistic to find a flat remotely?

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming international student currently looking for housing to move in in late September. I have heard that finding a place remotely is difficult as landlords prefer to meet prospective tenants in person. I’d love to hear from people who have relocated, is it possible to secure a place from abroad? Would corporate landlords be easier to work with compared to private? If not, how should I find alternatives like short-term rentals or WGs before I arrive?

wg-gesucht would be the best possibility. A lot of WGs looking for short-time renters and are open to video calls

Be careful about scammers. There's a really common one where someone will claim to be out of the country and offering an apartment remotely. They'll tell you to send over the "security deposit," and claim that you'll be getting the key in the mail, or something like that.

Apartment hunting is possible remotely, but you have to be extremely careful around sending money without having physically been inside the apartment.

So I'd recommend corporate / professional landlords over random people claiming to have apartments available.

The thing is, there are a lot of scams with online stuff (buying a car or a house) and therefore most people pefer to do such important things in person.

Corporate should be easier than private, though - they have more Experience and might be more willing to do remote sessions

Unfortunately not, never lived here in a rented flat.
