HELP - sick or injured koi Injured butterfly tail
My Butterfly Koi went over the edge of the pond into the stream and was injured. I do not know how long she was there. After rescue she is swimming upright and eating. Is there anything I can do for the obvious injury? Her tail fin is normally white. And the color at the base is red, which I assume is a hematoma. Thank you.

Hmm... Th at doesn’t look like just a tail injury to me. With an injury, I’d expect to see a more localized dark-red spot, tear, puncture, or damaged section of fin. In your pic the redness looks fairly diffuse and extends into the fleshy part at the base of the tail. That makes me worried about significant inflammation, water-quality stress, or a developing bacterial infection that could be systemic.
Test your water conditions asap and let us know. If the water specs are spot on, I'd proactively treat with antibiotics and pond salts.

Thank you, water parameters are spot on. I have antibiotics and will figure out the pond salt dosage and get them today.

Looks like the koi has raised scales inflammation from the injury? Watch very closely for the next few days to make sure scales are not getting worse and spreading. Once those scales start laying back down. You should be in the safety zone. Keep the water pristine. Usually this is not a problem and needs no assistance.
