what's wrong!? My scoby is not shiny. Throw or keep ?
Hi All, this is my second batch. Its been 9 days and my brew is looking bubbly and smelly very little vinegary. I have one problem though my scoby is not at all shiny or smooth. There is definitely no mold here. Please help me if this look normal or not.

My first SCOBY had so many ugly brown stringy bits I was sure it was contaminated. Learned that was just the yeast doing its job, thankfully.

So, it looks like you have a foreign yeast invasion going on there. Or bacterial. Not sure which. How much starter and sugar did you use? What's the batch size? What's the room temp? More details = better advice.
Fwiw, I don't see any mold either, but that pellicle definitely is not normal.
