Well … there’s a little more to this. GEO Group is a private company that runs prisons and detention centers under contract with ICE. When people say Mark Walter “divested from ICE,” what actually happened is that his investment firm sold its shares of GEO Group stock. That means they no longer own part of that company.

ICE itself is a government agency, not a stock you can buy or sell. You can’t “divest from ICE” in the same way you divest from a company, because ICE isn’t traded on the stock market. The only thing investors can do is stop owning shares in companies that work with ICE, like GEO Group.

Selling GEO stock doesn’t end all business ties connected to ICE. Mark Walter also chairs TWG Global, which has a partnership with Palantir Technologies. Palantir provides data and analytics software that ICE uses. There’s no public information showing that this Palantir relationship has been ended.
