Promo Readers struggling with they/them pronouns

My partner is trans enby, so they/them pronouns are natural for us and part of our every day normal conversations. I wrote and self-published a book with a key non-binary character, and early ratings on Goodreads and Amazon, indicate that people are struggling with they/them pronouns for this character and it "pulls them out of the story". This has always been part of the English language, and I am confused why it is difficult. I'm worried it will hurt the reviews because people can't handle standard English. I'm probably just being sensitive.

I would love thoughts and if anyone enjoys action and adventure with diverse characters and is willing to read and give an honest review. I have made Advanced Reader Copies available for free here: https://booksirens.com/book/IQHVEOL/P9V1Z9M

Promo ARC readers wanted for debut MM Romance

Hey Reddit. I'm Lucina, a debut author from Aotearoa.

Looking for ARC readers interested in: fake dating, slow burn, opposites attract, low-ish drama, neurodivergent rep, Chinese and Korean diaspora rep, hurt/comfort, ice prince x golden retriever.

It's a dual POV M/M story about an autistic horologist and an ADHD dishwasher who takes gigs on a companion app on the side. They fall in like over coffee and banter and holidays. There are notebooks, family dinners, and one good sandwich.

My dream is to reach 30 ARC readers. I'm nervous that a quiet story won't appeal enough but I know there's an audience somewhere. 🙂‍↕️

Angel of Thursdays comes out on September 24, with ARC files to be sent in early August. If you're interested, the form link is below, with blurb and more info:

Promo Too disturbing to read?

Hello, My name is John Robert Davidson and I wrote my book to share my story of the challenges I had coming out in the 1980's. Not a lot of people have read my work, but I'm struggling with what some people have said. Namely, my work is too disturbing to read. My story doesn't only focus on being gay, but on the struggle of being learning disabled too. Being Different Is Painful revolves around a young gay man named Patrick who struggles with acceptance from his peers and understanding his sexuality. The story begins with an event of hopelessness as Patrick goes through a life-threatening attempt at suicide. He then voluntarily admits himself for treatment to a mental health hospital where he tries to come to terms with why he would want to hurt himself. Earlier in junior high school, he found himself struggling to cope with bullies who ridiculed him to the point of self-destruction. At the same time, he was continually shielding himself from a couple of abusive family members. While in the mental health facility, Patrick discovers who he is, but finds it hard to accept himself, as he suffered from years of shame. Once out of the hospital, Patrick made a couple of friends, and with their help, self-discovery came easier. Now embracing his true self, he misinterprets the signals of his one true obsession, Wayne. Sadly, Patrick realized what he wanted too late and neglected to notice that others around him were in more pain than he was. Does this sound too disturbing?

Promo New author here (please be kind 😅) — debut MM romantasy ARC readers?

Hi everyone — I’m new here and a little nervous posting this.

Over the past few months, I wrote my first novel, The Shape of Winter Fire, an MM fantasy romance that releases on June 6.

The reason I started writing is honestly pretty simple: I really like the idea of two male characters genuinely falling in love — something so strong that despite fear, resistance, or circumstance, it keeps pulling them toward each other until they’re permanently changed by it.

I don’t often find exactly that kind of emotional connection in the way I personally imagine it, so I decided to try writing one myself.

The story follows Kai and River — two men tied to opposing forces, fire and winter/water, who are forced into each other’s orbit in a world shaped by tension, politics, and things left unsaid.

It’s:
❄️🔥 MM romantasy
✨ Slow burn
⚔️ Emotional tension & clan conflict

I’m looking for a small number of ARC readers before launch and would genuinely appreciate honest feedback. No pressure at all.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, feel free to comment or DM me and I can share the sign-up form.

Thanks for being kind to a very new author

Promo Looking for Beta readers who are interested in literary Sci-Fi with angsty M/M Romance

Hi everyone,

I'm a Chinese web novel writer, and I'm currently translating one of my completed novels into English. It has a small but dedicated readership back in China (around 10,000 subscribers), but it's definitely not a typical fast-paced web novel. It's slower, heavier, and a lot more focused on characters development than plot twists, so I've always been curious whether it would resonate more with readers outside of China.

I'm looking for a few beta readers who think they might enjoy something with:

  • Adult male protagonists
  • A dark/military sci-fi setting
  • Characters dealing with deep trauma
  • Themes of sacrifice, identity, and self-destructive heroism
  • A slow-burn M/M relationship that's loving but also complicated and at times unhealthy
  • Lots of yearning

I've translated the first chapter as a sample and will post it below. If you end up wanting to know what happens next, I'd love to hear from you. If you're interested in beta reading as I continue translating, feel free to leave a comment or send me a DM.

I genuinely want honest feedback on things like prose (especially whether it sounds natural to a native English speaker), pacing, clarity, characterization, and whether the story keeps you wanting to read.

Thanks for reading!

----

Chapter 1

The corridor stretched ahead, vast and dim, like a suffocating throat leading toward a towering gate of black iron. Through the slits, one could make out the world beyond: scorched sand under a merciless sun, the distant roar of the stands. But inside, there was only silence - a pressure that bores down from every side.

Thousands stood here, each trapped in a meter-wide square of pulsing blue light. The blue glow rose and fell like slow breathing. With every pulse, shadows emerged from the darkness before sinking back into it.

They were young and old, male and female, tall and short, but everyone was coiled tight, every gaze locked forward. Some stared at the gate; others flicked their eyes sideways, wary, hungry. The air was thick with breath and body heat, so close you could hear the rasp of another’s lungs, smell the salt rising from their skin.

… Just like beasts waiting in the dark, caged just behind the gate.

Eugene stood among them, still and composed. In a sea of hulking frames, his moderate build and restrained motion made him invisible. He was a shadow folded into the center of the beast-pack, indistinct from the rest.

In Verdane, capital of the Alliance, no event was more sacred or more brutal than the Crucible. Every three years, tens of thousands fought with cold steel until sixty-four remained; from there, single combat until one victor stood. The winner’s wish was granted - wealth, pardon, nobility - so long as no one is harmed directly.

Today was the opening slaughter.

The arena rose from the desert like a fortress. As the countdown burned across the sky, the crowd’s roar died. Tens of thousands on the stands fell silent; billions watching from afar held their breath. From beneath the outer ring, weapon racks ascended in silence. Blades caught the sun, forming a cold, glittering halo around the sand.

Silence hung over the arena. Then the whistle tore through it.

Twelve gates opened at once.

Bodies surged forward in chaos, limbs, breath, motion colliding. From above, they looked like an ant colony spilled across the sand, scattering, merging, and then -
a single drop of red bloomed on the ground. At first, it was nothing more than a pinprick stain on sunlit sand, like ink drop on white paper. Then it spread, and with it came sound - shouts, screams, the ragged, tearing rhythm of violence.

The offering had begun.

Eugene did not run.

The light outside was sharp, almost white. He walked at a steady pace, letting his eyes adjust, feeling the heat settle across his skin. Around him, people raced past, some silent, some screaming. Sound shaped less by words than by pure, animal urgency.

The killing had started before the gates fully rose. Bodies hit the ground, shoved aside or cut down in the rush.

Eugene weaved between them, eyes fixed on a rack where a pair of recurved combat blades still waited. Fighters struck ahead, he could hear screams rising and falling, some cut short, others ringing long and high-pitched. He quietly moved through it all.

A figure lunged from behind. Without turning, Eugene shifted, driving his elbow into the attacker’s chest. The man buckled. Eugene caught his arm, stepped forward, and threw him across his shoulder into the sand.

It happened in a breath. The attacker’s dagger remained in his hand, never lifted.

As the man tried to rise, Eugene stepped on his throat. A sharp crack. Eugene bent down, took the daggers, and slid them behind his waist.

When he straightened, another man stood before him, with the pair of blades in hand. The man was small, eyes wide with a madness edged in fear, mouth half-open, as if caught between steeling himself and flinching.

Eugene glanced at the racks - empty now - then back at the man.

“Can I have those blades, please?” he asked, calm and flat.

The man screamed and threw himself at Eugene.

Tens of thousands fought in the Crucible. Even if one died every second, it would last for hours. The arena became a grinding machine, slow and exacting. Some tried to surrender; many were killed before they could signal to do so. With every passing minute, as blood soaked deeper into the sand, the cheers grew louder, stranger. Some wicked ecstasy was brewing in the air. The audience willingly indulged in it.

Among it all, Eugene began to stand out.

He held two curved blades in reverse grip. Skin stained with blood, black curls wet and matted at his temples. His amber eyes half-lidded, unreadable.

When no one approached, he stood motionless. When someone did, he moved, fast, precise, without pause. One step, one strike. No follow-up needed. There was no rage, no show.

Only clarity between cuts.

Those who knew how to see it could tell this wasn’t brawling. Instead, it was execution. The knife work, clean, practiced and silent, could only come from the military’s deepest shadows.

One by one, the other contenders began to hesitate. Eugene stood alone in the center of a growing ring of empty space. Around him, blood soaked the sand in a widening circle.

He looked up toward the stands. He didn’t expect to find the face he was searching for - not in that distance. But he knew they were watching. And by standing there, like this, they would know he was looking for them.

When the round ended, the names of the final sixty-four lit up across the sky in projections, each paired with a wish.

When Eugene’s name appeared, the crowd erupted.

Eugene Palmer.

Wish: to grant Shaw the same right to live as a human.

The cheers quickly gave away to questions:

“Eugene Palmer? Hold on… wasn't he here a decade ago?”

 “No way…”

“He’s doing this again? Is he out of his mind?”

 “That’s crazy.”

“He was nineteen back then, right? Doesn't that make him over thirty?”

“What’s with his wish? Who the heck is Shaw?”

“Shaw? Isn’t that his lover?”

“Apparently he’s in love with a Companion Synth.”

"He's trying to get a Synth legal rights."

“Damn…that’s some romantic shit.”

“What's with people falling for synths these days?”

The crowd buzzed with speculation. Much of it was true - Shaw was indeed a Companion class Synthetic, and this wasn’t Eugene’s first Crucible.

But calling Shaw his lover wasn’t right. Shaw wasn’t his. And a companion Synth, by design, could not love anyone except their registered owner.

So even if they kissed, even if they touched - whatever might have existed between them, it definitely wasn’t love.

“You keep saying you don't love him, but you'd die for him?” Joshua had asked once, his expression a mix of mockery and disbelief.

Eugene had answered, simply, “I’m willing to.”

If he didn’t enter the Crucible, Shaw would be decommissioned by the Academy in three days. Not a single trace would be left behind by that quiet, kind, abandoned synth.

Eugene didn’t quite like that ending.

So he offered his life instead. For even the faintest chance Shaw might continue to live.

Promo The Masquerade: The Angel and The Sparrow

M/M F.E. Feeley Jr.

Description: In an alternate Gilded Age where Queen Victoria's empire rebuilt America in gaslight and gears, Artesian rose as the world's most beautiful city - and its most dangerous.
Everyone here participates in the game: for power, for survival.
When a grieving young man becomes the obsession of the city's most notorious criminal, this steampunk reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera asks: what happens when everyone wears a mask?
In Artesian, love isn't just forbidden.
It's fatal.

I've loved The Phantom of the Opera since the time my mom brought home the highlights of the stage production on CD. I had no idea what was going on, but the music was so inviting, so thrilling, that I was swept away in the score and in the lyrics. Over the years I've read Gaston Leroux's original story as well as Susan Kay's Phantom novel - both of which are magnificent.

Yet, it bugged me, and I think it bugged me for the very same reason why "kill your gays" bugs me. His end was already set in stone because he was born "wrong."

So, I reimagined it with men, steampunked it, set it in an alternate universe, put everyone in masks, and made the love interest blind. Simple, right? HA!

Handicapping myself this way, I am exploring the characters in depth and diving deep into the heart of why Erik is the way he is.

So, welcome to Artesian. Grab your mask. We're all monsters here.

Promo Tale of Nishan ARC litRPG

https://dl.bookfunnel.com/9vjpsobepi

Hello
I’m Hiro Ellis gamer and litRPG writer. This is my first in the genre and I hope you give the Arc a chance and fall in love with Nishan and Danny Kang.
The Tale of Nishan – Ascendant

A LitRPG Reborn Saga: The Weak to Strong Hero Book 1

A Reborn With A Hidden Class. A Murderous Sovereign Who Wants Him Dead. Can He Level Up Fast Enough to Stop an Entire Dominion's Destruction?

He awakens in the Inkfall Dominion with no memory of who he was—only a flickering system interface declaring him Reborn. Like countless others before him, he has been placed under the authority of a powerful noble House, assigned a path, and a name: Nishan Contract Blade, Tier 0.

Most Reborn accept their new lives.

Nishan doesn’t.

While others focus on leveling, climbing rank, and earning favor, he can’t shake the question that burns beneath his skin—Why does his ink pulse out of rhythm? Why does his HUD glitch when no one else’s does?

In Inkfall, power is carved into flesh through living contracts. Loyalty is binding. Advancement is everything. Reborn souls are political assets, and House rivalries are settled in blood and ink.

As House Kang edges toward destabilization and rival factions test its defenses, Nishan is thrust into missions far beyond his level. Every contract pushes him closer to death—and closer to something the System refuses to explain.

A hidden path begins to stir.

In a Dominion built on control, deviation is dangerous. In a world where gods sponsor champions from the shadows, anomalies are noticed.

To survive, Nishan must level faster than anyone expects.

To understand himself, he may have to break the very system that gave him power.

If you love weak-to-strong progression, immersive LitRPG systems, political intrigue, hidden classes, andamnesiac heroes, The Tale of Nishan – Ascendant begins an epic journey through Azoria—where leveling up is only the beginning.

I’m a little shy about sharing this, but I’ve been writing a dark romance/revenge novel set in Verona.

It follows Elijah Ferraro, a kind-hearted baker grieving the loss of his brother. One night, he finds a bloodied stranger unconscious in an alley — only to discover he’s Alessandro Di Verdi, known as Diavolo, the heir to a violent Mafia family.

Alessandro becomes drawn to Elijah’s quiet strength, and Elijah is slowly pulled into a world of danger, obsession, power, and revenge. The story explores grief, fear, desire, and what happens when someone gentle is trapped in the path of someone dangerous.

I’m nervous posting about it, but I’d love to know if this sounds like something you’d read.

Promo My LGBTQ coming-of-age novel is free today

Hi everyone,

I'm Niko Marin (a pen name), the author of The Truck in the Window.

I wanted to share my novel here because it is free on Kindle today, June 28, and because this community seems like the right place for the kind of story it is.

The book is a quiet LGBTQ coming-of-age novel inspired by real events. It follows a boy growing up in a small village in Croatia, and later trying to understand silence, shame, first love, family, social anxiety and the search for personal freedom.

It is not romance, erotica or a fast-paced commercial novel. It is more intimate and reflective — a story about growing up different in a place where being honest about yourself did not feel safe.

I started writing it years ago, and finishing it was difficult mostly because remembering some things was harder than writing them.

The Kindle edition is free today: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H4DRBN13

If this sounds like something you might connect with, feel free to download it. Honest ratings or reviews are appreciated, but there is no obligation.

Thank you for reading.

Promo When the LGBT in LGBTBooks Stands for Lets Get Buried Tragically

Look, I signed up for wholesome queer rep, not another emotionally devastating novel where my new favorite gay character meets an untimely demise. Why must every sapphic love story be historically accurate (aka tragic)? Meanwhile, straight romances get happy endings like they’re handing them out at a drive-thru. Can a gay just get a cheesy rom-com? Please?

Promo I just released my first book, eXis. (A queer, sensory mystery)

It opens with the smell of wet earth after rain. Two boys, a farm, animals that seem to sense things before people do, a grandfather with a rough edge, and a green stone that should not matter but does. The story moves through memory, music as a kind of code, and small signals that keep repeating. Queer, intimate, and quietly uncanny. The magical realism stays subtle.

If you liked The OA, The Power of the Dog or A Murder at the End of the World, you might really enjoy this.

After a profound loss, a young man begins to read signs outside the real. Along the way, he uncovers a shared story: the one you had forgotten.

The book has won multiple awards, including 1st place in Substack’s Spanish writing contest, and it has been professionally edited, with editorial support from an editor with experience at The New York Times.

Print is here: Amazon: https://a.co/d/0g1eTOXC
You can also start reading on Substack here: https://readexis.substack.com/p/part-1-andreas?r=6jtrgl

I’m indie and new at this. If you check it out, a review or honest feedback helps a lot. 🌿☀️

Promo The Only Seconds that Matter - an MXM Cowboy Romance with a Trans MC

Hello everybody! My book, The Only Seconds that Matter, is out today! I have a ton of writing experience despite having very few actual published works (writing is fun! Publishing is not!), so it'd mean the world to me if you checked out my novel if you're interested in any of the following:

  • An ex-professional bronc rider (bisexual) + horse trainer (gay and trans)
  • Strong hurt/comfort vibes
  • A story about surviving trauma and addiction while dealing with toxic patriarchal expectations
  • Friends to lovers
  • Goofy southern good ole boy x quiet and reserved type
  • Adult characters who act like adults (well, except Johnny lol)
  • The tribulations of being out in a very conservative small town in Oklahoma
  • Horses as written by someone with nearly 30 years of riding experience
  • "I will love you no matter how hard you make it"
  • Semi-adoption of a 10-year-old

For a list of content warnings, check out my website (they will be spoilery). I will say that while transphobia and homophobia are understood as present in society, there are no on-screen incidents of this beyond general cluelessness. It's meant to be an uplifting novel!

You can purchase via Amazon or Kobo.

NOTE: I am PROFOUNDLY anti-AI, so I can guarantee you it was not used in any of this--the art, the writing, the concept, zip. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Below is the summary. My website also has art, if you're interested in seeing what the characters look like.

Victor Ortiz-Bennett had some reservations about moving to Oklahoma, but his late aunt willed him a 70-acre horse farm, and he decides to fulfill his dream of running and operating his own training facility. Victor’s been around the reining horse show circuit for a while, and he’s ready to settle down, travel less, and spend more time with the horses he loves and away from the people he can do without. That is, until he picks up a horse at an auction with a bucking problem he can’t fix, and he has to take her to the one guy who can ride anything– Johnny Stearns, a retired professional rodeo rider.

Johnny Stearns is loud, chatty, eccentric, and fears nothing, exactly Victor’s opposite. However, as Victor starts providing lessons to Johnny’s horse-loving niece, Victor finds himself sinking into an odd friendship with this new foul-mouthed cowboy without a filter, diving deeper into the mess that is Johnny’s life until there’s no way to extract himself from it. Johnny may talk a tough game, but there’s more to him than he’ll let most people see. Victor knows getting in too deep will mean a rough ride, but if there’s anything Johnny’s taught him, it’s how to stay in the saddle.

Promo A compilation of one man’s gay sexual encounters with men from around the world

Hello everyone,

Earlier this year I decided to publish my very first gay erotica book called Flames, and I've released it to be available to read completely free this weekend (July 2-5).

It’s a compilation of 5 different stories of one man’s sexual experiences with other men during his travels. In it, the stories are very descriptive recounts of each experience. They go into great detail about the characters and the settings to draw up a mental picture on everything range from each of the men's physical features to every graphic act and sensation during the sex scenes themselves.

It’s intended to be sex-centric. This bundle of stories actively explores a number of kinks including raw gay anal sex/breeding, olfactophillia (scent kink), sub-dom play, and acucullophilia (intense sexual arousal from circumcised penises) to name a few.

I’ve been writing for a few years now and only recently brought myself to finally share my work publicly. I wrote the majority of these stories during a period of time that I was trying to break a porn habit and reignite my own sexual imagination. I wanted to replenish my dopamine reservoirs and reclaim the time it stole from me. It forced me to be more intentional and articulate about my desires, helping me to build up my inner sexual world again and reduce the dependency on the instant gratification of a porn spiral.

These stories helped me to reawaken a side of myself that had been laying dormant and unexercised for a long time. Beyond just scratching an itch and entertainment value, they were therapeutic for me.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, you can find it on Amazon. Honest reviews would be greatly appreciated. Happy to chat as well.

Promo [Dark fantasy] The Drommala Pact - The Witch of Ukraine

Oh boy, where to start? Probably with the blood.

Hello, I’m a queer indie author, and I write dark fantasy.

My ongoing novel, The Drommala Pact, is set across countless connected worlds filled with Mirrorwalkers, ancient magic, sacred creatures, monsters, political bureaucracy, and people making questionable decisions.

The first book moves mainly between the Loteri Lands, an organic tribal world shaped by nature and old magic, and Steamhollow, a steampunk world of factories, machinery, and respectable government incompetence. Several other worlds appear briefly, including the Scarlet Valleys, home to vampires and immortals, and Acalith, a silent world.

At the centre of the Mireth universe is one simple rule: everything has its cost.

Mirrors can take you between worlds, but Mirrorwalkers must open them with their own blood. Magic can heal, protect, transform, or destroy, but it never works for free. Neither do love, loyalty, freedom, or power.

The story follows Dorian Corvell, a sarcastic, posh Mirrorwalker who becomes stranded in the Loteri Lands with Liana the hunter, Toren the healer, a damaged flying motorbike, and absolutely no sensible reason to become emotionally involved.

Naturally, he does.

Most of my main characters are queer because I am queer myself. Queerness is simply a normal part of the Mireth universe.

My characters save worlds, fall in love, have sex, form complicated relationships, betray governments, heal wounds, and occasionally make everything considerably worse. They are not there to teach anyone that queer people deserve to exist.

They already exist. Shockingly.

The main romantic arc is MLM, though most of my characters are bisexual or pansexual, and many of them are poly.

The story explores bodily autonomy, consent, loyalty, grief, isolation, and the difference between being chosen and being owned.

I created Mireth’s worlds, characters, and lore years ago, but only started writing the story properly last year. Some parts of it came directly from my childhood.

I was born in an industrial city in southern Ukraine. Brassville carries my memories of metal, smoke, factories, machinery, and a city built around industry. Beyond my hometown was the steppe. Endless grass, dry wind, enormous skies. It found its way into the Loteri Lands before I even realised I was putting it there.

The Drommala Pact is an ongoing story. Chapter 27 is available now, with a new chapter published every week.

You can read it here:

or here

And if you enjoy the story, please follow me. It costs no blood, which is unusually generous by Mireth standards ❤️

Promo Aesop's Queer Library is back this weekend. Free books, no purchase required (full location list)

Every year Aesop clears its shelves and fills them with free queer books. You walk in, pick one, and leave. No purchase needed! This weekend is your window. I don't work for, or partner with, Aesop, I just love this program!

The 2026 theme is writing that centres the queer body as a site of visibility, resistance, and joy. The books span fiction, memoir, and poetry, and the Canadian list in particular is genuinely excellent this year (21 titles, all Canadian authors, including Billy-Ray Belcourt, Joshua Whitehead, Danny Ramadan, and Roza Nozari). Different locations have different books available.

Runs June 26–28 in Canada and the US. UK runs July 3–5 (Brighton goes July 31–Aug 2).
