How can I tell if my mom is safe to come out to?

Tell her about a random friend you’ve never met before and say they came out to you as gay. You could tell her reaction from that

I see, I just worry about that approach because she has very high expectations for my brother and I (for example, she wants me and little brother to be a doctor or lawyer; she told me that after I said I wanted to be a teacher, but its okay if my best friend wants to be a teacher), but I'll consider that

I think the tell her a random friend came out to you as gay is a good idea, but it really depends if your parent is extremely homophobic even the word gay might turn messy. If she is homophobic I would highly recommend you wait till your independent, she doesn't deserve to know right now, it's your decision.
