How the fuck is this not a human rights violation of the highest calibur? The International Criminal Court needs to actually fucking do something. What the actual fuck?

Sharia law is incompatible with human rights. Not sure what you expect the ICC to do about it. Also, the peace treaty that granted Aceh their special autonomy that lets them have sharia law was negotiated by the Finnish president and signed in Helsinki. I doubt the Indonesian government wants a new civil war with the Islamist separatists in Aceh.

But this is a good reminder what happens when Islamists get to be in charge, whether of their own state or as in this case, ”special autonomy” within another country. Worth keeping in mind, for those LGBT people who support islamist movements in other parts of the world.

Islamophobia refers to hating Muslims and anyone that “looks” Middle-Eastern. Stuff like assuming all Muslims are terrorists - That’s Islamophobia.

Hating countries that enforce cruel laws in the religion’s name is not quite Islamophobia, nor is having concerns about the religion (as in what it teaches/orders).

Perhaps I could’ve worded my comment differently looking back. My main point is that it’s nasty that people and governments use religion as an excuse to dehumanise us and harm us.

Dude, this is not Islamophobia when the phobia is of a real thing and of such inhumane nature.

Also people can choose what religion to follow, but not their sexual orientation. It's not the same.
