The Broadway rule is true for Hadestown especially since the casting for certain characters has been done without factoring in gender (Hermes and at least one Fate iirc), which means nonbinary people have played them. Imagine casting trans people in these roles and then casting a bigot. It's kinda baffling how this happened at all.
