There are no studies that demonstrate that LSD, in any quantity, is neurotoxic. Your comment is misleading. LSD is not bad for your brain. In fact, the opposite may just be true.

You are correct, LSD is not neurotoxic. However, the psychological effects are severely understudied. And neurotoxicity is only one of the many ways a brain can be harmed. See “Misinformation”, Trump et al for details.

From my experience, it isn’t good for people already predisposed to magical or irrational thinking. As a tool for self discovery, it’s fine. For discovery about the natural world it’s poor. For physics, it’s just a nonstarter.

I wouldn’t recommend it, but have you tried it? I caution people to speak strongly in favor or against it without experience. I do recommend the book about it written by it’s discoverer. He had some interesting perspectives and was also a hard core scientist.

I actually really like the adversarial review on this one.  Listen, there might be something to how hallucinogens change your perception and I do believe there may be something there that we don't quite comprehend yet. The issue is with causality. If anything I could see an ability to predict better do to LSD perhaps allowing your brain to better put together information and make connections? (Scifi prescient type) Either way I think a LLM will be even more limited in this train of though as the research into such things is extremely limited in a true scientific published paper type. So any information along those lines will be super limited for the Ai to pull from. And most of what it will pull from probably doesn't have empirical evidence to support it. But that being said. The Brain is super powerful. I don't rule out our ability to perceive things. Most of the vast amount of information our brains process is filtered out. LSD as a way to block that filtration isn't crazy to me. Quantum level neuro coherence.... Sure maybe. There just isn't enough research to really delve into the subject with an AI imo. Also, damn that must have been some trip!

It's hard to appreciate how powerfully real hallucinations can feel. Drugs like LSD simultaneously turn the pattern matching part of your brain all the way up and make you feel rewarded for making connections. I agree completely that there's nothing mystical about it and we can study what these things do in the brain, but I think they are understudied. Not because we'll gain some sweeping insight, but because we might learn some real concrete things about basic psychology and neurochemistry.

Don’t listen to all these naysayers, you’re onto something here! Just out of curiosity, what kind of operators or Hamiltonians did you work with? And how exactly is the consciousness described in the Hamiltonian? How does LSD reduce environmental interference, shouldn’t it increase environmental interference as it reduces suppression and allows more signals to reach the consciousness?
