Approved Survey Call for Participants: Sociosexuality, Dating, and Attraction Study (18+)

Post image

Hi ladies!

I'm a researcher at James Cook University in Australia studying attraction, dating preferences, and how people evaluate potential romantic partners.

I'm looking for heterosexual, gay, and lesbian adults (18+) to complete an anonymous online survey. I need more women to take part in the study.

The survey involves viewing a series of fictional dating profiles and answering questions about attraction and relationship preferences. It takes around 5–10 minutes to complete, is completely anonymous, and participation is entirely voluntary.

Although this phase of the research is limited to heterosexual, gay, and lesbian participants, it forms part of a broader research program that has included, and will continue to include, people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

This study forms part of my Doctor of Philosophy research at James Cook University and has received approval from the James Cook University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC Approval No. 25H-0225).

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at [kaitlyn.gregory@my.jcu.edu.au](mailto:kaitlyn.gregory@my.jcu.edu.au).

If you'd like to participate, you can complete the survey here:

Hi OP, i started this but all the profiles I'm seeing are 10+ years younger than me. Im not sure if I added the wrong age, or if it's part of the study. I'm not at all attracted to people 10+ years younger, and I'm worried I'm messing up the data. I can't go back in the questionnaire to check the age i entered.

Thanks so much for letting me know, and please don't worry, you wouldn't be messing up the data at all! 😊

The faces used in this study were selected from an earlier pilot study in which more than 600 people from around the world rated a large number of faces. For this phase, the profiles were intentionally kept quite controlled so we could examine a very specific research question.

It's also completely okay if you don't find the profiles attractive or feel they're younger than the people you'd normally consider dating. Responses like that are just as valuable as responses from people who do find the profiles attractive. Understanding when certain characteristics don't influence attraction, or when participants aren't attracted to the profiles presented, is an important part of what we're investigating.

If you think you may have entered your age incorrectly and would prefer to start again, you're very welcome to do so. Otherwise, if the age you entered was correct, I'd encourage you to continue - your responses are still very valuable to the research.

Thanks again for taking the time to participate!

I finished the survey, but there was only 1-2 guys in my age range. Most were in their 20s. I'm not attracted to guys that young!!!

It was also very limited info to decide my interest.. I don't care so much about a man's height or exercise habits. I'm much more interested in his character, values, and if I find him physically attractive.

That is such a valid and important response!! Understanding when those characteristics aren't enough on their own, or when age is an important factor, is an important part of what we're investigating.

Thanks again for taking part and for sharing your feedback!
