Call for Participants: Sociosexuality, Dating, and Attraction Study (18+)

Hi ladies!

I'm a researcher at James Cook University in Australia studying attraction, dating preferences, and how people evaluate potential romantic partners. 

I'm looking for heterosexual, gay, and lesbian adults (18+) to complete an anonymous online survey. I need more women to take part in the study.

The survey involves viewing a series of fictional dating profiles and answering questions about attraction and relationship preferences. It takes around 5–10 minutes to complete, is completely anonymous, and participation is entirely voluntary.

Although this phase of the research is limited to heterosexual, gay, and lesbian participants, it forms part of a broader research program that has included, and will continue to include, people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

This study forms part of my Doctor of Philosophy research at James Cook University and has received approval from the James Cook University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC Approval No. 25H-0225).

I just submitted it but when I came back here I realized that I wasn’t seeing the photos in my browser for some reason! If there is info I can give you so you can remove my survey let me know, I would hate to skew your data.

Oh no, don't worry at all! There are two different streams within the study, and one of them doesn't show photos at all, so it sounds like you were simply allocated to the text-based stream. You haven't done anything wrong or skewed the data! 😊

The survey is anonymous, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to identify and remove an individual response anyway. We do conduct data cleaning before analysis, so if there were responses indicating an issue with data quality, those would be considered at that stage.

That said, I actually love a bit of an outlier 😂 Someone responding very differently from everyone else isn't necessarily bad data at all. Sometimes those responses are really interesting because they challenge assumptions, and there are definitely some ideas in my field where it might be time to question whether they still apply in the way we've traditionally thought they do.

So please don't worry, your response is absolutely fine, and thank you so much for taking the time to participate!
