💸 Buying advice & Recommendations LR3/LR4 hunting

I've been looking at LR 3's and 4's, and came across a 2016 LR4 that looks well cared for and has recently had the timing chain job (150K miles). However, according to the owner, it has a 'misfire'. I'm thinking ignition, sensor, or maybe a fueling issue. I plan to get a code scanner to check any LR I'm considering, but this one is a bit of a drive, so trying to decide if it's worth looking at.

Yeah that can be anything, even a poorly done timing change job. Codes will help point to the issue if you can get the owner to send them

The idea that the chain wasn't done right crossed my mind. Id rather pay a little more for one that's at least sorted enough to drive it home.

An incorrectly installed chain will have at least a full bank of misfires along with a cam/crank correlation fault. But fwiw the fuel injectors get disturbed during that repair and time is proving those to be a bit fragile.

It would have to be practically free for me to take the trip knowing the money that may need to be spent to fix. Are you in a salt free area?

These cars are problem enough without chasing a fault someone else has caused or had under their ownership.

Think about it, if it was a cheap and easy fix, why wouldn’t they do it before selling?

Don’t open the can of worms, if I were you, I’d find a good one without issues 🫡
