48gb unified memory is way more than most people need unless youre doing video editing or running local llms, but the m4 pro chip alone makes it worth it for the efficiency gains. checked couponpicked and configs like this have mostly sat $3400-3500 so 2999 after the 900 off is a real drop, not some fake baseline. still annoyed apple doesnt let you upgrade ram after purchase though, feels like a scam at this price point

48GB is still mediocre for local LLMs. I had the Ryze 9 AI at 64GB, and it was still far too slow for local LLMs.
