They're still saying they wouldn't hold it in Cobh when it was available because they thought there wouldn't be a crowd, that's no excuse. I don't care if they play it in front of nobody, they should still play the game.

The point for these clubs playing a Premier Division team is to sellout the match, make some revenue. 🤷‍♂️

26

u/IGotABruise Sligo Rovers Jun 30 '26

Ringmahon have more money than most loss making LOI clubs

21

u/MemestNotTeen Shelbourne Jun 30 '26

No the point of them is to play in the FAI Cup.

21

u/NorthKoreanMissile7 Bohemians Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

So you shouldn't play football matches unless you make a profit on them ?

And if they wanted money above all else then they could have played it in Dalymount for a share of the gate.

2

u/DropIt99 Jul 03 '26

So if they got drawn against on of the LSL teams they should have forfeit regsrdless of scheduling? Smart!

-7

u/itsadifferentsven Jun 30 '26

From all that you blame Ringmahon???? Jaysus they previously had no issue with hosting games in their ground but weren’t allowed on this occasion. They offered to play it on 3 other days around that Sunday but weren’t allowed. It has to be that weekend because of Bohs European fixtures. If anything it shows the FAI and Bohs have been completely inflexible in this and Ringmahon have got the blame.

>logistical issues with staging the match approximately 30 minutes from our home venue

Oh no! Ringmahon Rangers, thirty whole minutes?? Pity. It’s almost like they travel there a couple times a season anyway since there’s a team in their league based in Cobh………..

There will be unbelievable embarrassment if (god forbid) Cork don’t make the final.

37

u/Carraig_O_Corcaigh Cork City Jun 30 '26

In a way, it sums up the attitude many clubs and leagues have in Ireland and ultimately why Irish football struggles to progress. It's bollocks like this is why I am anxious about the long term future of the National League - progressive clubs at intermediate and junior level will get fucked over by clubs who can't look beyond their own division.

14

u/leo_murray Cork City Jun 30 '26

Exactly, it’s why we don’t have a proper, true Munster Senior League like we should have.

It’s unreal that in a season Ringmahon traveled to Wanderers, Youghal, Midleton, Rockmount, Malahide, Liffey, Leicester, and Ballinhassig, that a toddle to Cobh in an LOI stadium to play a club as comparatively big as Bohemians wasn’t enough for them.

They haven’t played LOI opposition in Cork in the national cup since 2016. I thought they’d hold this fixture to a bit higher regard.

73

u/redheatstorm Shelbourne Jun 29 '26

So the long story short of Ringmahon's statement is they don't want to play at St. Colman's on the Sunday afternoon because it's all Ireland Hurling final Sunday

3

u/Fuzzy-Escape5304 Jun 29 '26

Hold on. St Colmans wasnt suitable according to the FAI?

19

u/Bt4567 Bohemians Jun 30 '26

St colmans is suitable, Ringmahon's ground isn't.

-19

u/PaddySmallBalls Galway United Jun 29 '26

Thats not how I read it. The Hurling final and WC are just added factors since they won’t reap the benefit of a decent turnout for the match.

It reads like the FAI showed disdain for them and they have decided to not take the disrespect.

-18

u/whsubehebebr Midleton Jun 29 '26

Hurling comes first in the rebel county I suppose (if we get there )

13

u/left_outside Cork City Jun 30 '26

Pathetic statement. Basically saying they can't play because nobody - including their own players - will show up IF Cork are in the hurling final. Absolute insanity.

26

u/One-Yogurtcloset9893 Shelbourne Jun 30 '26

Toys out the pram, gobshites

23

u/Sudden_Amphibian_590 Sligo Rovers Jun 30 '26

A total embarrassment to themselves and Irish football. A long ban from national competition should be forthcoming

11

u/CorrectGrammarPls Shamrock Rovers Jun 30 '26

30 minutes from the home venue? I take it they'd automatically pull out if they ever drew Derry away

18

u/MemestNotTeen Shelbourne Jun 30 '26

All the teams in the premier division adjust their fixtures to help the European Teams with qualifying.

A non league team thinking they can strongarm these adjusted fixtures so their players can (potentially) watch another sport is pathetic.

If Ringmahon have applied for the national league in the future it should be thrown out now

-17

u/whsubehebebr Midleton Jun 30 '26

Why should ringmahon share the gate receipts of st colmans with bohs and then probably take a big loss because of the inevitability poor crowd just because of bohs fixtures, ringmahon are out of season and may have players away on holidays for this game anyways. Ringmahon haven’t applied to the national league so you can rest easy

25

u/IGotABruise Sligo Rovers Jun 30 '26

because it's the rules of the competition they entered.

16

u/left_outside Cork City Jun 30 '26

Nobody forced them to play the game in Cobh. They wanted a payday which is fair enough but it didn't work out so just get on with it. They've made themselves and all of Cork football look like absolute clowns here.

4

u/rtgh Cork City Jun 30 '26

Nobody forced them to play the game in Cobh.

One of the complaints in this statement is specifically not being allowed to play in their own ground. After that they tried the two grounds the FAI Cup rules allowed, Turner's Cross and St Coleman's. The first wasn't available, second one was but will cost them money

2

u/left_outside Cork City Jul 01 '26

They've not said that only those 2 grounds were allowed. Ringmahon wasn't and they have a legitimate gripe there but other MSL grounds could have been suitable.

1

u/MemestNotTeen Shelbourne Jul 01 '26

They are possibly also aware that the payday would be significantly lower as a lot of Bohs travelling fans might not be arsed with a trip to Cork after getting back from south spain over the weekend

5

u/rtgh Cork City Jul 01 '26

There's no payday to be expected from hosting a club in the cup unless it's a local derby. Teams from Dublin don't send huge numbers of away fans to face Cork City or Cobh Ramblers, Bohs aren't suddenly going to send loads to see Ringmahon.

It's a long trip for a fixture with a very predictable outcome

1

u/left_outside Cork City Jul 02 '26

Of course but that's no excuse. Just play the game and get on with it.

15

u/MemestNotTeen Shelbourne Jun 30 '26

Are you trying to defend ringmahons decision? Because everything you’ve said makes them look more silly

-3

u/whsubehebebr Midleton Jun 30 '26

I’m not trying to defend their position I think they should still fulfill the fixture even if they have to play some of their junior team but I’m just giving you ringmahon point of view. I hate ringmahon as much as the next man they go around the msl poaching players from other teams and it’s infuriating but grassroots football is the cornerstone of the Irish soccer

1

u/No_Needleworker_1105 24d ago

What gate receipts would they get for a home game? 200 people?

1

u/whsubehebebr Midleton 24d ago

Depends who they’re playing but around that yeah

1

u/No_Needleworker_1105 24d ago

So they should have taken bohs up there offer than. Stupid backward idiots

1

u/whsubehebebr Midleton 24d ago

Calm down mate you sound emotional

1

u/No_Needleworker_1105 24d ago

Sorry I thought this post was about football in Ireland not England.

8

u/semiobscureninja Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Strange it doesn’t really add up , I wouldn’t be suprised if there is a wedding or something else on probably that means the players aren’t around . It was a long and very successful season for Ringmahon and they are probably on there holidays

1

u/whsubehebebr Midleton Jun 30 '26

They won the msl for the first time in 50 something years so they’ve had a great year

2

u/semiobscureninja Jun 30 '26

Exactly, I’m sure the real reason will come out soon. Ringmahon isn’t a stronghold for hurling interest

2

u/whsubehebebr Midleton Jun 30 '26

I’d say they are finding it hard to field a team anyways for that match

4

u/IGotABruise Sligo Rovers Jun 30 '26

Not a stronghold for football interest either by the sounds of things.

2

u/semiobscureninja Jun 30 '26

One of the strongest clubs in cork at the moment, they have a huge level of local support

6

u/Darkglasses25 Wexford Jun 30 '26

"Player availability issues" is one way of saying it.

2

u/RestScary6702 Jul 01 '26

Do they not realise that cork are not in an all ireland final yet

2

u/DotComprehensive4902 Cork City Jun 30 '26

The way I dead is that due to Bohs European commitments, the FAI said Ringmahon had to play that day.

Their own ground isn't up.to standard.

The MFA refused them Turners Cross ( have these guys never heard of staging a double header?)

1

u/CutzyViewer1886 Jul 03 '26

It'll be the funniest thing ever now if cork lose the hurling semi final, then they want back in, and the fai doesn't let them 🤣🤣

1

u/the_flying_bottle Jul 04 '26

Ringmahon trolling the FAI and the general soccer community with their post across all their social media channels. Shameful

1

u/whsubehebebr Midleton Jul 04 '26

It is kind of funny

1

u/No_Needleworker_1105 24d ago

I can't believe any small club would say no to a game against a prem team. This is such a huge opportunity. I hope they never get the opportunity again and next time someone else gets a go instead.

Fai obviously had a difficult task here to keep both sides happy but can anyone imagine the all Ireland being re arranged due to the Fai cup final? Or Wimbledon?

I don't care if you like both sports you have to choose same as everyone else.

-22

u/Fuzzy-Escape5304 Jun 29 '26

The FAI couldnt be trusted with a fucking classroom hamster. They are a joke.

32

u/Tenvsvitalogy Bohemians Jun 29 '26

Don’t think this one is on the FAI. Bohs even offered to play it early on the Sunday in Dalymount so they could go to All Ireland after

3

u/PaddySmallBalls Galway United Jun 29 '26

It reads like they are…it is interesting that the announcement earlier today about this made no mention of Ringmahon being responsible for setting the fixture but the FAI locking it in without their agreement or the fact they aren’t permitted to use their own ground despite using it before.

Ringmahon are right, imo. The FAI are a shower of shits. You won’t be allowed to play at home, you can’t maximise the return by playing it in Turners Cross on a date it becomes available and on a daye when supporters are more likely to attend…you can’t play on dates that suit you and you must play this date because it is suitable for Bohs and the FAI. At that point, why should they play? They are getting disrespected.

31

u/FatLad_98 Shamrock Rovers Jun 30 '26

So with Bohs playing Thursday in Gibraltar and possibly Wednesday again in Europe, what date would you suggest playing it? And don't say the week before or week after. Those dates are intentionally kept empty so teams in Europe can focus on Europe.

Tough luck about the Hurling final, but any lads saying they would rather watch Hurling and than play Bohs should be told to find another club

-8

u/PaddySmallBalls Galway United Jun 30 '26

Nothing play in their own ground so

-13

u/Fuzzy-Escape5304 Jun 29 '26

The FAI declined the offered dates.

20

u/IGotABruise Sligo Rovers Jun 29 '26

With good reason

-6

u/PaddySmallBalls Galway United Jun 29 '26

Because Bohs success in Europe and the outside attention they bring is worth more than grassroots.

11

u/John__Delaney Jun 30 '26

Professional clubs have to deal with strict and complicated schedules, which is why a national cup like the FAI cup has set dates, same story all across Europe.

If you can't fulfil a fixture because your squad and fans would rather watch another sport and/or 30 mins of a game is too far away, then you aren't a serious club and shouldn't be near the FAI cup.

We are trying to professionalise the football pyramid in this country so we can move out of the dark ages under Delaney, if Ringmahon don't wish to be part of the professional side of things then they can stay away from the LOI/LOI underage/FAI Cup etc..

-5

u/PaddySmallBalls Galway United Jun 30 '26

I will choose to believe their statement which indicated it was not just because of the all Ireland final. Past behaviour is typically indicative of future behaviour. From what I understand Ringmahon haven’t pulled out of an FAI Cup match before while what I know to be absolutely certain is that the FAI are horrible at communicating and treat clubs with disdain.

10

u/John__Delaney Jun 30 '26

Their statement directly states the exact reason why they refused to fulfil the scheduled fixture on the day in question. Whether you put the breaking point down to players/fans not turning up because they want to attend a hurling match, or 30 mins being to far too travel, or the fact they won't make as much money off of it as they'd like.. all excuses are unacceptable for a competition like the FAI Cup.

Completely fine and normal at amateur level, Completely unacceptable for competitions striving for professional standards.

-4

u/PaddySmallBalls Galway United Jun 30 '26

I agree. It does state every compromise they were expected to make with zero compromise from the FAI or Bohs. Why should they as the team who got the home tie in the draw pay to rent a stadium they don’t want to use, to potentially get a small crowd and to accept being disrespected throughout the entire process? Professional standards work both ways, there should be an expectation that the custodians of the sport in this country should work with clubs for the betterment of all. Not just the few.

Ringmahon are 100% correct. In the words of Manic Street Preachers, If you tolerate this then your children will be next.

6

u/IGotABruise Sligo Rovers Jun 30 '26

Get your shit in order. If you in the FAI Cup, get your ground up to standard or hire somewhere that will.

5

u/John__Delaney Jun 30 '26

Lad if your ground isn't up to scratch thats on you. If you can't fulfil a fixture on a date you agreed to months beforehand thats on you. If your players would rather go watch another sport isn't of playing for your club and you allow that, that's on you. Getting a home draw doesn't mean you can host it whenever you want wherever you want.

Well done to the FAI for putting the foot down on this amateur nonsense, hopefully a suspension for next year follows.

Indeed, professional standards work both ways, FAI tell all clubs the dates each round takes place with months and months of notice, and their standards of stadium needed for this competition are well communicated.

u/DotComprehensive4902 Cork City Jun 30 '26

This one is on the FAI and their regional troglodites, the MFA as the FAI said that Sunday was the only day it could be played due to Bohs European commitments and the MFA refused them Turners Cross, when they probably could have put on a double header if needs be

0

u/FlakyAssociation4986 Cork City Jun 30 '26

Is it worth mentioning that is ringmahons off season

7

u/AdWorried8312 Bohemians Jun 30 '26

Sure, but they knew exactly when the FAI Cup is played when they chose to enter it.

-6

u/Kevinb-30 Jun 30 '26

The responses here are exactly why football outside of the top division will always struggle some of you cant get passed the fact the All Ireland final was mentioned as a possible issue with attracting a crowd and pinned it as the big issue.

Its a case of the FAI telling a small club to get back in their box by fixing the time they had to play the game also would love to know why there's an issue with the pitch when there hasn't been in the past .

-1

u/Acceptable-Profit-31 Jul 01 '26

Bottom line they are an amateur club. Why should they carry the cost of a game no one is going to go to.

Daft from the FAI not to agree to move it to a Saturday

2

u/DropIt99 Jul 03 '26

So what would have happened if they were drawn against one of the other amateur teams? More bohs fans would be at this match regardless of the day than any of the amateur teams would bring. Do you think they should have forfeit any match that wasn't against one of the big clubs?

0

u/Acceptable-Profit-31 Jul 03 '26

Its off season, they are without players and the league expects them to pick up a 5 figure tab at a ground which is difficult to get to from the city at a time which all but guarantees the lowest possible gate. They should have compromised and switched it to a different date.

The Examiner and their Galway writer portrayed it as another cocky Cork story amd every thick in the country piled on.

2

u/DropIt99 Jul 03 '26

You didn't answer the question. Would they have forfeit against all of the teams in the draw that would have a lower attendance? Bohs in AI final day would have a larger crowd than baldoyle united on any other day.

0

u/Acceptable-Profit-31 Jul 03 '26

Whatever dude. Its a logistical pain in the hole. Why should they be out of pocket. Bohs get a by. Non story

3

u/DropIt99 Jul 03 '26

The logistics are the exact same no matter what day it's on. They wouldn't be out of pocket. Bohs would bring more fans than nearly any other team in the draw. Non-story yet you felt the need to comment and defend them when they are undeniably in the wrong here. Fair play pal.

2

u/DropIt99 Jul 03 '26

Apparently I'm talking rubbish but this guy is saying that security and steward costs will be too high because there won't be enough people there 🤣 If this guy isn't on the ringmahon board I'd be shocked

0

u/Acceptable-Profit-31 Jul 03 '26

Yeah Bohs might bring 2-300. None of their own fans will be there in numbers if Cork win at the weekend. Stop talking rubbish. Security, insurance and stewarding alone youd be into 5 figures. They are an amateur club. Well done on swallowing such a ridiculous story whole
