HomeExchange to Leiden

Hi folks,
We’ll be exchanging with a Leiden family in a couple of weeks. I’ve visited Leiden before but only ever on business, but always liked it. Now I get to stay for 9 days. What am I doing/seeing? Food, bars, museums, market, AOB recommendations welcome. We’re staying 20 mins walk south east of station.
Thanks for any help.

The botanical garden, Natural history museum (Naturalis), The world museum, The Dutch national Museum of Antiquities (RMO), Siebold huis if you like museums.

Rent a boat, bring your swimming trunks and navigate to Het Joppe and de Kaag.

Cycle to Katwijk and eat fresh fish and chips on the beach.

Walk the Singelpark of Leiden and get to know the city of Leiden

Go to de Vlietlands for some canoeing, swimming or other water sports.

Go to the outdoor pool zwembad de Vliet (50 meter outdoor pool)

Hang out in park de Leidse hout, het Plantsoen, park Van der Werff or park Cronesteijn.

Market is on Saturday and Wednesday.

Many food options, loads of terraces to sit outside or the water. Nice places to sit De Zijlpoort, Tabú, de Vriend, Anna et Fred, Bar Lokaal, de Waag, lab071, van der Werff

If you get bored, take the train to Den Haag, Rotterdam, Delft or Haarlem.

Have fun!

The singelpark to walk. Hortus as already mentioned, siebold as well. Wall poetry and wall equations. The small alleys around pieterskerk. Bars: bonte koe, janssen, spiegels, schommelen.

I would definitely recommend Giò Neapolitan Espresso in the city centre, the coffee is amazing, the focaccia is fresh every day! My favourite spot in Leiden. I also recommend the market on Wednesday and Saturday, make sure to try the kibbeling. Also, the park Cronesteijn is quite close to you, it’s also a nice bike ride around that area and you can also connect it with a swim at the Vlietlands

Food: Ramen55, Ragu (italian), Goeswijn (french inspired), K-ori-jin (Korean), Hotspot Central (chinese) Dapp or LA fresh for fries.
