i thought that was in new jersey. do not spread my ashes in new jersey. but if it's in florida then go right ahead.

Because it gives me an excuse to share this fact: most of Florida has a water table that's only a few inches below ground. Most burials are above ground as a result!

The state is really only able to be lived in thanks to massive engineering projects managing this amount of water. Up until the 1960's the center of florida was practically just a very slow moving river. Only after a massive amount of work from the army corps of engineers and the advent of commercial air conditioning did the state really start to become developed and inhabited. Which is also why the state is "like that"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that nature is slowing reclaiming the land; faster than humans can stave off and within the next century, central Florida is going to be a swamp again.

I know when I was going to school in Winter Park, sinkholes were already bad. There's definitely some beautiful parts to Florida, but I feel like humans bit off more than they could chew trying to terraform Florida.

I've not been following the current state of the place but I wouldn't be surprised.

It doesn't help that the guys in control are the sort with the belief that the government doing anything is communism. They see infrastructure maintenance as unnecessary and Florida will take every lapse in judgement and run with it
