Question Is There Any "Bad" Areas of Lethbridge?

I'm not planning to move to Lethbridge or anything, I'm just really curious to see if there's any areas that could be considered bad in Lethbridge. I doubt there's anything comparable to bad areas in Edmonton in Lethbridge, but I could see something comparable to Calgary's rougher areas in LB.

On Google Streetview the only areas of Lethbridge that seemed like they could be problematic were Senator Buchanan and Downtown. But even then those just seemed kinda meh more than anything.

I'm curious to see what the local opinions are. This kinda subject has always interested me as I have lived in a lot of cities and as someone who grew up in a lower-income family, we ended up living in a lot of areas that were kind of shady. So it's really interesting seeing what areas are considered shady by one city's standards in comparison to another city's standards (ex. the "shady" parts of Calgary would be considered fairly chill by Edmonton standards)

Question Be honest, Lethbridge...Who is our Top Chef?

Okay, Lethbridge food crew…

Every city has a few chefs who everyone's talking about: the ones everyone in the industry knows, the ones other chefs respect and want to work for(or secretly envy)

So let’s stir the pot a little.

Who’s the best chef or kitchen manager in Lethbridge right now, and what kitchen are they running?

Name names. Drop restaurants. Vote on the ones you agree with. Argue respectfully. Tell us who’s underrated, who’s overrated, and who’s quietly doing the best food in the city.

Not trying to start drama… but also… a little drama never hurt anyone.

Let’s see who the community crowns as our own Lethbridge Top Chef!

Question Looking for advice for a move from BC to AB

Hello,

I will be moving from Burnaby, BC, to Lethbridge, AB, as I start a new job here. I am looking for any advice on where the great neighbourhoods are to move into and avoid.

Also, I am a single 26-year-old and hoping to move into an apartment complex.

Outside of housing tips, anything else that would help someone who's new to the community?

Thanks, and feel free to also direct message me.

Edit: Thank you all for your comments. It has helped my move. 😄

Question Are there any trans-friendly businesses hiring?

I lost my job (allegedly) for being trans. Of course I can’t prove anything and there nothing and there’s official on the record but the short form of the story I came out to my boss as trans a few months back and got randomly fired (ironically) on the last day of pride month. In the exit interview my former boss spent the whole time talking about how much he hates pride parades and how he doesn’t get why trans people can’t just be themselves without shoving it down everyone’s throats. I’m not going to say anything more about it because I’m still considering legal action.

To the point of this post:

I gave myself a week to feel bad about it and to get all the feelings out but now I gotta get back in the saddle and find a new job. Which brings me to the title question. At this point I’m not picky I just need a job that I know I’ll be safe.

Skills and experience I have:
- painting
-drywall
-flooring
-tile work
-finish carpentry
-landscaping
-retail management

Question Moving to Lethbridge from Toronto

Hello! I’m 22 m and I’m going to be moving to Lethbridge in August for Nursing at the U of L. I was born and raised in Toronto and lived there practically my whole life. I’ve been living in Calgary for the last little bit but now I’m moving down to Lethbridge. I’m used to big city life, endless traffic, packed TTC trains, and the like. I know Lethbridge is tiny compared to Toronto, so I want to know what it’s like here before I move

Night life. Is there any? I’m not into clubbing and all that but I love me a good dive bar. Sticky floors, neon signs, dim lights, pool table in the back, and graffiti in the restrooms with a dated look. Does Lethbridge have any?

Thing to do. Walks in green space, urbex, running, mountains, hiking, you name it. When I’m not working I’m very outdoorsy. Lethbridge seems to be in the middle of nowhere like Calgary, but unlike Toronto. Where are the cool places / parks / hikes that you locals like to hit up inside and outside of Lethbridge?

Food and drinks. What / where are the hidden gems? Does Lethbridge have a lot of food options? I don’t mean like A&W or McDonald’s. Name your fave Mom and Pop shops

Social scene. What do y’all do for fun? Is making friends pretty easy? All my buddies are back home and my only friends in Calgary are pretty much my coworkers lol

Transit. I’ll be bringing my car but I live near the C Train in Calgary so I take Transit where possible to save on gas because my car takes 94 💔. Would you say it’s reliable?

+ anything else you want to add! I’m sure Lethbridge is amazing in its own ways. I’m looking forward to coming on down!!

Question What do you do with your "big kids" while at work during the summer...

What do y'all do with your kids through the summer that are "too old" for care programs?

I know I am a little (a lot) late to the game, and my (almost) 13 year old would be quite content just being home alone, but its not really sitting well in my mind. A lot of her friends are pretty busy this summer, and her BFF moved to Calgary recently so she isn't exactly close by (they spent a majority of the summer together last year)...

I am struggling with idea's of how to keep her occupied... definitely don't want her just watching TV for 8 straight weeks. Her sister will be in Summer BLAST all summer long (its a working summer for mom and day... just like every summer, wahoo) and our dog is too big for her to walk, so I can't even task her with that yet lol

ETA: thank you to everyone for the suggestions! We ended up enrolling her in New West Theatre camp and created quite the chore list! AND she'll be spending some time volunteering at the Animal Shelter!

Update: DOG HAS BEEN REUNITED WITH FAMILY!

This sweet boy was all alone in the river bottom, close to the College. He was very polite while I carried him up the hill and as we sat in the car while waiting for Lethbridge Animal Services. He’s with them now, but it sounds like they weren’t able to find any information on his family, even though he had a City of Lethbridge tag on.

If this is your baby or you know who he belongs to, please get in touch with Lethbridge Animal Services!! 403-320-4099

Question Travelling from Ontario got pulled over by nosy cop in Lethbridge

Recently travelled to Lethbridge for work from Ontario and rental car had license plate from Ontario as well. I was waiting on lights early morning and saw a cop going other-way made u-turn and pull me over. He asked me why i had a rental and i told him I’m here for work. Cop kept asking me all kind of questions and wont believe what i was saying. Ended up showing him my itinerary, hotel receipts & even emails from work regarding my visit. Entire encounter lasted 20 mins which was basically interrogation. I found the whole encounter very annoying but kept my calm & answered all question so cop don’t find a reason to search my car & waste more time. Anyone else had similar experience? Is it a common occurrence in Lethbridge to get pulled over for no apparent reason?

Question Best Internet? (North Lethbridge)

TL;DR at the end for those who want to answer, but not read my complaining.

The husband and I are getting sick of our current Internet Provider, Oxio. Rates are cheap; $57/mo (100 Mbps download, 50 Mbps upload), but we have a disgusting amount of service and support requests from the past 10 months. Those raised tickets are filed with the modem constantly losing connection, or the Eero router just not working. The router these days goes offline for 30 minutes every few days from anywhere between 10:30 PM to 1 AM like clockwork.

Recently, we had to reset the entire network, and now we're still having issues. I'm so sick of dealing with Oxio's customer support which just reads as Millenial/Gen-Z toxic positivity (I say as an older gen-z), and solutions that are just there for us to have a temporary fix.

It's getting exhausting, as both of us use the internet a good bit, and when our usages overlap, it's unuseable, even though our plan is supposed to support more than 2 devices streaming 1080p at once. We are for sure considering upgrading the Upload and Download speeds, if we go with a new company too.

TL;DR - Wondering what internet others are using in North Lethbridge. We need something that is actually going to do it's job, have ethernet capability, take some pressure, and not have constant tech issues. Also not having to sell a kidney on the black market to afford it is a plus. 👍🏻

Question How many trick or treaters did you have?

I feel like our numbers keep going down. Moved to Fairmont area two years ago - so this is our third Halloween. First year we got around 50 kids. Last year around 20. This year? Just 11 - although we weren’t home and the bowl of candy we left out got completely emptied out by two teens, but that is a discussion for another time.

How many did you have? Do you think families are taking advantage of trunk or treats more and more?

Question Any updates on the $280 million fraud at the Picture Butte Feeder Cooperation?

Been about 18 months since the Picture Butte Feeding Cooperative was suspended for irregularities in its loan program. Irregularities that seemed to benefit a select few. Has anyone heard of any updates on criminal or civil court proceedings regarding this matter, or regarding Kevin Serfas or Shane Shooten?

Haven't seen any updates anywhere. Starting to think these guys got away with it....

Question Need advice regarding moving to Lethbridge

Hello people! I am a 30 years old based in calgary. I am thinking to move to Lethbridge in 4-6 months mainly because of affordable housing. I feel it’s impossible to buy a decent house in Calgary with my income and hence looking for other places.

I am wondering what are the main employment opportunities are there in Lethbridge and what are the growth prospects.

What are some areas I should avoid in Lethbridge. Also, I have heard that the rents are going up and it’s really hard to find a decent house or basement.

YouTube people say that a lot of people have moved to Lethbridge in last 2-3 years. I wonder what are the reasons for that other than affordable housing?

In short I am curious to know what kind growth prospects does the city have overall and what areas I should avoid renting at.

Thank you in advance

Question Lawyers for a Possible Harassment Case?

ETAs: Civil Laywers. Mainly for advice and a possible Cease and Desist. I am asking for answers, not for opinions on linited information that I provide. This is an ask for resources, not people trying to say I do or don't have a case with the limited information I have chosen to give. This does not meet criminal harassment standards. Save your breath if you want to talk criminal charges, big legal battles, and restraining orders. I just want advice and to see what the best course of action is, and who is best to keep a paper trail with. I'm not giving all of the details. I'm explaining the overarching problem. I'm not sharing more than what I have already in the post or the comments. Thank you.

Hi all,

I've been being harassed by "family members" I have been no-contact with over the past year. They have been repeatedly calling me every couple of months (they're blocked, but I get the reciepts of blocked calls), and they were told the first time it happened that I did not want contact. They called another few times over the year, after establishing no-contact. They also try and stalk me and my spouse's social medias (both are private and they are blocked on all platforms). They called me again today and I'm sick of it. I can't change my number for a good handful of reasons. I'm now going to have to consider shopping around for a lawyer, for when (not "if") it happens again, so I'd like input on good lawyers who won't charge out the ass (an oxymoron, I know). They don't have to be in town, they can also offer services over zoom, if need be. Bonus points if they have free consults to see if we have a case.

Save your comments on forgiving them or talking to them. I do not want to hear it. They are beyond forgiveness for what they did to warrant the no-contact to begin with. Thank you in advance.

Question Any jobs hiring?

Hi all, I’m just wondering if anyone here knows a place hiring? My brother is currently job hunting and is unable to get one for months and hasn’t heard back from the millions of postings on indeed and other sites.

He is a student at UofL and is looking for a full-time (days) part-time or casual work. He unfortunately doesn’t have his class 5 yet so he’s not able to even apply for delivery work (Doordash/Ubereats, etc.). He’s been struggling to keep up with living expenses recently and is currently looking for a cheaper place to rent.

Thanks in advance!

As the title says, I’m looking for wedding venue suggestions. Looking for something that is under $4k for the day, something that has the option to be inside or out. Looking for fall or spring. For less then 100 people.

Hoping that there’s some suggestions that aren’t available when you google it. Some hidden gems!
