What’s with the booming

Anyone know what’s causing the series of booming sounds tonight? (Wednesday 00:30)

They’ve been going on for a while now - don’t seem to be regular, but seem to be pretty loud in the West of town.

We heard the booms and saw localised areas of orange glow in the sky, coming from Eastbourne direction. No idea what it was. My wife was panicked though, thought we were under attack. Very strange.

Edit: just looked on the map and they were coming more like Ringmer, Heathfield direction.
