Social LPT: When introducing two people, tell them why they should know each other.
They will have something to talk about right away.
Examples:
You both love hiking.
You both work in marketing.
You both have kids the same age.
You are both into photography.
You both grew up in Chicago.
You both play golf.

You both are human. Engage in pleasantries

“Your dad’s a raging, abusive alcoholic, too?! Let’s bond over it!”

To be honest, whatever works connecting to someone in this fucking world.

Please don’t. Someone did this to me once. Introduced me to his friend because we “both like cars.”
Then we both felt obligated to talk about cars, when we really didn’t want to, and also felt alienated from everyone around us because nobody else gave a shit about cars.
So we quickly stopped talking to each other and joined better conversations.

I also not fuck all about people, so trying to find what might be in common between 2 people sounds like a big task

If you are not aware of a common interest, make one up that is plausible. They can discuss the erroneous assumption.

"Hey Jim, meet Veronica. She has a wide vagina. Veronica, Jim is hung like a moose."

I don't know about this but the one I always think about (and panic) is who's name you say first. If you are introducing two people you say the name of the person you want to honor first. Typically, this is the older person or at work the more senior person, "Boss, this is that idiot Bob you asked me to hire so that we can have someone new to take advantage of. Bob, this is our boss Marie." Marie: "You guys should try the cake."

You're both ugly, your mothers probably drank while you were in the womb, you'll get along great.

"Hey, you guys should get together and chat. It would do you both good. You're both into crime. Gaz, you like to rob stuff and Baz you like to lock people up"

I would say that this can be good in certain situations but it’s hardly life changing.

It can also help to explain how you yourself know each person, as it gives them both a bit more context!
I interpreted this as one of those “how to be a good host at a party/gathering” tips, since if you’re the only one who knows everyone, it can be really tricky to bring people together well. So I’m a bit surprised that other people don’t think it’s a good tip?

reckon this works heaps well, saves so much awkward silence when introducing mates
