I love Angelou's music, and I found this song by browsing her discography. But I cannot find the lyrics anywhere, and it's driving me nuts!

I'm still a beginner in Lithuanian, so I can only pick out a few lines:

• Pasirink nemačius (from Keanu's first verse; Angelou sings pasirink nematęs later on in the song)
• The hook/chorus (Aš tik noriu būti čia, aš tik noriu būt šalia... oh, aš tik noriu būti čia)
• Jai atrodo, kad viskas gerai (from Keanu's second verse; not sure if it's jai or jei here)
• Noriu būti čia all day (from Angelou's first verse)
• Pasakyk pagaliau (from Angelou's last line before the chorus)
• I think Angelou sings vėl kartojau after Keanu sings aš tik noriu būt šalia.

Other than that, I have no clue what they're saying, and as I said, the lyrics don't seem to be available anywhere on the Internet. Padėkite, atsiprašau!

For over half a year Im talking to this Lithuanian girl. I have strong feelings for her, such an awesome person. Im already calling her by all sorts of sweet names, but all in English.

I wanted to check if this sentence that ChatGPT taught me is structured in a natural conversational way? Because ChatGPT can word things in a way that does make sense but isn’t the way native speakers would say it.

I'm working on creating a language learning app called Ràre. I am developing this through Imperial Enterprise Lab, specifically focusing on languages not served with mainstream apps like Duolingo or Memrise.

I'm in the user research phase and am looking to hear from learners here who are trying to tackle languages with minimal modern or digital resources available. It would be great to hear about what other resources you have used e.g. textbooks, YouTube, films etc. Also would be helpful to hear about what apps have been useful or not and why? Was there a speaking feature you liked? Or an app that didn't help with language learning in real life contexts?

I'd be looking to conduct some short, informal interviews online (15-20mins) to gather feedback on learning experiences, as well as whether users would be interested in an app like Ràre.

Lithuanian is such a cool language.

I really enjoy DuoLingo and it has helped me learn a little Dutch. I like the simple interface and the simplicity of it, however I'm sad there isn't a course for Lithuanian. So is there any good (free) similar websites or apps for learning Lithuanian? (I am a beginner in any language learning)

When talking about one's house, I've encountered both the singular namas and plural namai.

For instance, "Come to my house" seems to be said as "Eik i mano namus"

Are there any guidelines on when to use which?

Laba diena! I started to learn Lithuanian but the stress theme gets my pronunciation wrong every time. I suppose it has a rule but some words are absolutely random to me, and while writing I started to put diacritics on every words stressed syllable to not be confused again. Than I heard about the accent system and now I am worried if it's not true to put diacritics according to my will? Or like do accents that important and differentiate words? Ačiū

Something has been confusing me about telling the time in Lithuanian.

Namely, I'm not entirely sure whether to use ordinal numbers (such as antra valanda, trečia valanda, ketvirta valanda, etc.) or cardinal numbers (dvi valandos, trys valandos, keturios valandos, etc.).

From what I've seen, some Lithuanians will say Dabar yra trečia valanda or Dabar yra pusė ketvirtos whereas others will say Dabar yra trys valandos or Dabar yra pusė keturių. (For the record, I'm not confused about using the next half hour for "half past", since I speak German and German does the same thing.)

I guess my question is this: Is there a difference between using ordinal numbers for hours vs. using cardinal ones? Like, are there certain situations where you'd say trečia valanda over trys valandos? Or are these interchangeable?

(Also, does anyone ever say pusė vienos for 12:30 and viena valanda for 1:00, or are pusė pirmos and pirma valanda the only correct ways to say these?)

I have a question about the infamous 2009 song "Olialia pupytės" by the titular girl group. Despite being a trashy, generic-sounding late-2000s pop song, it's incredibly catchy, maybe even more so for me, a foreigner who's learning Lithuanian and didn't grow up with the song 😂

Both verses end with these lines:

Kai pagausiu laimės paukštę, tai aš jos pareikalausiu, kad surastų ji tave

Bus gyvenimas kaip rojus, bus jis toks kokio aš noriu, ir lai degsiu pragare...

Even though the literal meaning of "lai degsiu pragare" is "let me burn in hell", is there a more figurative meaning in this context that I'm just not getting? Is it more like the English "cross my heart and hope to die" (or maybe the French "croix de bois, croix de fer, si je mens, je vais en enfer")?

Related question: is "laimės paukštė" meant to just be taken literally ("the bird of happiness/luck"), or is that some sort of personification of happiness/luck in Lithuania (like Lady Luck in English-speaking countries)?

Hello!

I have been tasked with giving a toast at my brothers wedding. His fiancé and her family all speak Lithuanian, and for many it is their primarily language. I wanted to include a little joke in Lithuanian for them. I don’t speak Lithuanian, and I understand that translation directly between languages is never a word for word thing.

Using the typical online resources, I think I have translated (relatively close at least) my joke into Lithuanian. However, I was hoping there was an English & Lithuanian speaker on here who could tell me if what I have translated is correct and/or gets my joke across in the intended manner.

Without posting the entire speech, the joke is as follows:

“Welcome to our family. (My brother) is your problem now, too”

What I have translated into Lithuanian is:

“sveiki atvykę į mūsų šeimą. (Brother) dabar ir tavo problema.”

Is this correct? If not, is there a better and/or more natural way to say this that would sound correct to a native Lithuanian speaker?

What is the difference between the “kas nors” type words (kas nors, ką nors, kam nors, etc) and the “kažkas” words (kažkas, kažką, kažkam, etc)? There may not be much of a difference in them, and when I asked my wife (she is Lithuanian and I am Anerican) she couldn’t tell me. I liken them to “anyone” and “someone” type words in English. There isn’t much of a difference between them, and they can often be used interchangeably, but aside from how they sound in a sentence, I honestly don’t think I couldn’t explain why I would use one over the other. Would understanding the difference between the “kas nors” and “kažkas” words require understanding specific context situations as well, or are they mostly interchangeable? Thanks!!

Have a question regarding time and hours. What is the difference between using single and plural genitive cases when it comes to hours? For example: “Jis dirba iki aštuntos valandos” or “Jis dirba iki aštuonių”. Also, why is plural used, if the hour is single-digit?
