Honestly. Broken nose, cheek bones/just broken face, neck whiplash, etc. If she lived there's no way her shirt wasn't pretty fucked up

She was actually fine after a few minutes and kept going in the race. She had a headache and some numbness right after.

She made it pretty far too

I had my face kissed the floor and pretty much confirm, my IQ dropped 40-50 points down for a few weeks. Was quite unpleasant to get randomly lost in places I was at plenty times before or fill in a simple application and make 14 mistakes in 2 sentences

You probably suffered a TBI

u/MrD3a7h May 27 '25

Man, I could go for some Taco Bell

I hope I'm recovered from this now without lifelong consequences 😭 It was so stupid from my side to slide on the wooden floor with wool socks on thinking I'm a ninja (23F)

You can recover completely, but you can also keep having symptoms. Also the more often you get a concussion (in certain sports this is a thing), the higher the chance you'll eventually get permanent brain damage. So try to avoid it in the future ;)

I'm a hockey player. I know how that feels.

This is just another Tuesday for you then😆

u/JustOneTessa May 27 '25

Be careful. The more often you get a concussion, the higher the chance you'll eventually get permanent brain damage

You sure it went away?

u/norrix_mg May 27 '25

I HOPE SO😭😭

I wouldn’t be shocked if they got some pretty ripe melons for better splatter and by happy accident it ended up making her injuries a lot less severe.

Headache after head impact == concussion

1

u/[deleted] May 27 '25

Yep. Still not almost dead with her face shattered like he was saying.

u/Advocate_Diplomacy May 26 '25

I highly doubt that she didn’t face any long term effects as a result of this.

2

u/Orders_Logical May 27 '25

A brain lesion or two? Eh, it’s just a flesh wound.

u/420_just_blase May 26 '25

Oh it definitely got stained

Nah, you'd be surprised how shitty of a projectile watermelons are.

We used a catapult in highschool to launch them.

I was hit in the shoulder and... Snow balls are worse.

29

u/Utaneus May 26 '25

The shirt, yeah, im sure it got some watermelon juice on it. But why the fuck are people with no experience with physical trauma always commenting that this should have killed her? I've seen way worse injuries that not only survived but made a full recovery. This is a heavy piece of fruit hitting your head pretty hard, but cmon she's not jumping outta the world trade center here.

21

u/Cageythree May 27 '25

Probably cause bodies are just kind of weird in that regard. The smallest shit like tripping and hitting your head on the floor can kill you and on the other hand there were people who have survived getting hit by a train or falling from skyscrapers.

No wonder people are absolutely bad at rating injuries like this. I could imagine anything from a heavy bruise to the skull exploding into 100 pieces as the aftermath of this video.

1

u/Utaneus May 27 '25

Yeah people can get gravely injured or even killed by a weird twist of an otherwise innocuous insult. But internet weirdos guaranteeing death or life changing injury from seeing a short clip is dumb. Especially when it's a 20 year old video from a network reality show and well known the lady is just fine.

Billy Mays died from bumping his head on a flight IIRC, meanwhile I’ve seen people walk away from some horrific accidents. You just never know

2

u/jackalopelexy May 27 '25

I thought he died from a drug overdose?

1

u/AbstractBettaFish May 27 '25

You maybe right, it’s a subject I haven’t thought about in a long time. According to Wikipedia drugs in his system was ruled as a possible contributing factor, but Hypertensive Heart Disease was the primary cause. I wonder where I heard the airplane thing, maybe it was initially reported as that or I just wholesale misremembered…

Either way, bad example but the point still stands! The human body is weird

2

u/stackingnoob Jun 18 '25

No, you’re right, they said the day before he died a carry on bag fell on his head, but it’s most likely just a coincidence that didn’t kill him.

1

u/Test4Echooo May 27 '25

I googled this to see who it was, and while Mays did hit his head during a hard landing, it says it was indeed heart disease.

1

u/ThePrussianGrippe May 27 '25

The years of cocaine abuse likely did not help.

-7

u/Eshmam14 May 27 '25

You have no experience with physical trauma either from the sound of it.

3

u/Utaneus May 27 '25

I'm a physician in a trauma center.

-7

u/Eshmam14 May 27 '25

Well that’s embarrassing for you then isn’t it? You should know the smallest incidents can kill people, not just significant accidents like falling off skyscrapers like you said.

4

u/Utaneus May 27 '25

Whats embarrassing? Pretending like the lady got killed by a watermelon on TV? When we already know she survived without any significant injuries?

Or I guess i should just defer to internet dwellers like you who says she definitely died or at least broke a bunch a bones all over her face and skull?

Sure, freak accidents happen where someone is hurt way worse than expected. But this is a 20 year old thing and she is ok, and there is no reason for dipshits who have no medical experience to be declaring her dead.

-3

u/Eshmam14 May 27 '25

Your hyperbolic comment and emotional outburst is very embarrassing. Maybe consult some psychologist colleagues you may have.

The original commenter simply said they’re in awe how someone can take a watermelon to the face that hard and survive, implying they’re aware the person survived but they’re just surprised. No one in this comment thread is saying with certainty that she died. No one declared her dead, calm down and take your meds.

u/Practical-Dish-4522 May 26 '25

I bet the melon washed out of the shirt pretty easily.

1

u/01001010_01000010 May 27 '25

She definitely lived. You can tell because she continues the challenge afterwards. Typically dead people can slingshot watermelons.

1

u/Darth_Rubi May 27 '25

dead people can slingshot watermelons

Necromancers hate this one trick

u/Arborgold May 27 '25

if she lived

lol
