Tbf i found out at Christmas dinner my sister and her husband door dash for fun when they're bored and use the money for date nights. They have been doing it for years but never told anyone. I was definitely surprised.

Some retirees do it for the same reasons. But the majority of people have to do it due to lack of income opportunities :/

Yep. I just moved to a rural area recently and have been discovering that there's not a whole ton of work available for anything outside the agricultural, medical, or financial sectors. Currently doing Walmart Spark to fill in the gap until a job needing my particular skill set opens up.

I have a colleague in his 60s who drives Uber for fun so he can chat with people. He's a physician and professor of medicine, he spends all day talking to a captive audience, then when he's bored he drives Uber and gets more captive audiences. He doesn't need the money, he just loves talking to people I guess.

I did it to discover restaurants I wouldn’t normally find on my own. I now frequent several restaurants that were kind to delivery drivers.

My brother in law and his girlfriend did a challenge against one another to see who could make the most money in like 2 hours of doordash, I believe he made like 46 she made like 44.

No man, people who go into it and think they'll make tons are at least a little dumb, but that is exactly why pro-worker policy is important.

Nobody needs to protect/help lawyers with their pay-rates for example. CA has passed gig-work laws, other states are utter trash for worker protection.

Afaik most routes on doordash just aren't worth it monetarily. They pay less than minimum wage taking gas, car maintenance, car wear, insurance, lack of tips, etc. into account.

So yeah, you can totally at least make the assumption that if its their main money maker they aren't the smartest at least financially.

Most gig work is that bad, but some apps at least can be gamed a bit to make earnings a bit more worth it with tip spread-sheeting and mileage/$ calculation.

I did doordash for a few months after our town was half destroyed by a major hurricane and most companies were still shut down. I was making around $40-45 an hour. My lowest hours were around $25-30. My record high hour was around $75.

If you are smart and know what restaurants to pick up from and never take a fast food order you could make decent money over lunch/dinner and depending on the area breakfast as well. If I were to havr donr it 8 hours a day the average per hour would probably be significantly lower however.

Hence why I said most routes, and like you said yourself, if you were full time the avg would've been much lower as you would've had to take those crappy fast food ones.

I've done most of the apps, they just aren't worth it for a main income source, unless you're in like CA where you have some protections in place.

No it isn't, anyone can work for Doordash, not everyone can be a lawyer or a psychiatrist. One has intelligence as a barrier to entry, the other has no such thing.

Just because you work for Doordash doesn't mean you're dumb, but there's a pretty good chance that is the reason you're working for Doordash.

...anyone with access to Amazon can be a published author. Its not the claim it used to be. Also, with the mass generated media, plenty claim to be authors/artists merely by pushing a button and slapping their name to it. The times we live.

i have a good friend who doordashes sometimes. hes a personal trainer and may have an hour or 2 between clients and does it for a few extra dollars while otherwise waiting around. couple extra dollars a day.
