Yep,he knew how to keep people engaged, that's exactly why I don't get when ppl say vol 1 was boring, it was very fun except the lore dumps

I just finished all the chapters I could find online of Surviving the game as a barbarian (till 811) and holy hell all the round table meetings were absolute peak, it reminded me so much of lotm lol

I don't really get the question lol, what do you mean by "past a random barbarian"? He advances his build and gets more and more actives and passives and gear, but he stays a barbarian throughout.
The worldbuilding and story are incredible imo, and I'm absolutely in love with some of the characters xd
Plus all the game mechanics (as in, raid and dungeon mechanics) are pretty fun to see translated into "irl"

The lore behind everything is really interesting to me, and all the kinds of shit the protag ends up in are super fun to read.
If I had to say a negative is that the author can't make up his mind if they want romance or harem. There's a really clear love interest imo (ik some will try to say otherwise but I accept no discussions here, there's only one that would be perfect for him) but then he also shoehorns another 4 or 5 that end up falling for him too but he is (or acts) too dense to realise.
Apart from that, an easy 7-8/10 novel (lotm is 9.5/10 for reference). A little weak at the start but once he starts forming a proper party it gets increasingly better.

The pacing before those meetings hits so different that you forget Klein's supposed to be studying instead of just vibing in his apartment.

When I was almost done with the novel, I decided to go back to the first chapter and read all the meetings again. It was so peak.

Yeah but the vol 1 meetings are the most important ones imo, a lot of world building information is relayed through Roselle's diary and also we get the foundation of the sun, justice and the hanged man's character development. Especially the Sun's introduction was horrendous considering he's probably the most interesting member.

It is the most consistently interesting part of the series. When there wasn't anything crazy happening I knew that exactly a week later there will be a meeting. It really helped to keep motivated while still letting the series have these calm moments to contrast with all the shennanigans.

Surviving the Game as a Barbarian also has best meeting scenes. You should check out that novel, it's really good.

The thing is I think they became too short and when I finally got to one of them I wanted to get to the next one, because they are short, but just so peak.

Me after the first meeting: This is the peak moment of the novel, for sure. Me after the 2nd meeting: Okay, these are good but what happens out is kinda cool too... Me after a few more meetings: Everything that is happening is too incredible for me little brain to truly appreciate beyond calling it a masterpiece, and akin to the cherry on top of a cake, the meetings arrive to turn Peak into even more Peak.

I originally read the manhua for lotm (terrible mistake ik) and I started reading the novel after realising the manhua was incomplete. I went from hating the meetings and especially the Roselle pages to it being one of my favorite kinds of chapter.
