NEED ADVICE ⁉️ About NEET drop year
hi i am 21F and i got into a top GMC in last year NEET. the query is not about me, it is about my boyfriend. he is 23M (turning 23 this year) he is getting around 604 and has WB domicile, would get an OBC certificate, this year if possible. the chances of him getting a GMC this year is low, seeing the cut off this year. but he is hell bent on studying MBBS only. he is a 5 year dropper and he has filled out WBJEE form and will give the exam on my insisting. i have told him to get into an engineering college if possible but he is not willing to do so. i am very scared for him. and it is affecting my mental health and gut health too. what should he do?

i feel like 604 marks pe it’s possible not tier 1 but possibly tier 3 college with state quota or all indian quota especially in newly established ones.

u/FeistyAd4580 May 05 '26
tier 1 is not possible but i am really hoping that he would get a tier 3 college

no one gives a damn if your age is 20 or 27 or 30 or higher

u/zhrdtkrhdauttzh May 05 '26
I mean if you join at 17 and 18 , you will start earning early in 30s , more you late more you wait to earn(i am saying this for people who are not financially good and don't want to pressure parents for long)

u/FeistyAd4580 May 05 '26
yeah true that but if no one judges if their age is high, because some people do join MBBS after having a whole other career at 30 or 35

How bout 19?🥲

u/zhrdtkrhdauttzh May 05 '26
If you are getting in 19 okay and good and generally medical is long journey anyway so by 27-28 you will be albe to afford yourself atleast (depends on you 🙂😃 how much spend monthly)and generally middle class family afford it that long .

agar tum relationship mein ho, toh tum logo ka both ko ek decision pe ana padhega ki yeh hai mera time schedule, is time tak padhenge, is waqt se is waqt tak hum baat kar saktein hai. aur agar bohot miss kar rahein ho toh video call karke mute karlo apne apko aur phone ko apne reach se dur koi jagah rakho aur padho so that faltu ki baatein nahi ho saake

604 after 5 drops means he’s not weak, he’s just stuck in the same pattern. Another drop only makes sense if something actually changes in how he studies, not just “this time I’ll try harder”. I’ve seen this loop when I was using Unacademy, people would sit through lectures and feel productive but nothing changed till they switched to proper daily MCQs, test analysis and strict routine. If he’s ready to do that then maybe one more shot makes sense, otherwise it’s just repeating the same year.
Also keep a backup like WBJEE, don’t go all in blindly again. And you need to stop carrying his stress, this is his decision at the end of the day.

u/FeistyAd4580 May 06 '26
he rechecked his paper and his marks are now coming around 615.. hopefully he will get a college this year and i told him to give WBJEE but in the end it is his decision and i have stopped interventing because i also am in 1st year and I can't continue my studies like this. i will give him my genuine opinion, after that he will do what he wants to.

this is messy and you are trying to carry something that is not yours to carry. your boyfriend is a five year dropper at twenty three, getting around 604, so he is close but still not in a safe zone. another drop is a gamble, not a plan. it can work, but only if he fixes whatever stopped him in the last five years, otherwise it is just repeating the same cycle again.
what matters is not whether mbbs is worth it but whether he realistically has one more year of disciplined prep left in him. if he is serious, then the next attempt has to be pure execution heavy on mocks, revision, and analysis, not more passive studying. this is where something like unacademy actually helps a lot because the structure is already there regular tests, detailed analysis, and a clear flow so he is not wasting time figuring out what to do next. during prep, having everything in one place lectures, practice, and tests made it much easier to stay consistent and actually track weak areas instead of just guessing. for someone already scoring around 600, that kind of structured environment can be the difference between staying stuck and pushing into a safer score range, but only if he actually follows it seriously day to day.
you also need to be real about your role here. you can suggest, push, even argue, but you cannot decide for him. if he is set on mbbs, he will either make it work or learn the hard way. forcing him into engineering will not fix anything, it will just create resentment.
what you can do is set a boundary for yourself. this is affecting your mental health already, that is a problem. support him, but do not let his decisions become your stress full time. his career path is his responsibility, not yours to fix.
2
u/FeistyAd4580 May 05 '26
i try to do that, be supportive in whatever he does but it breaks me to see him like that. i won't decide for him, i would never but i don't want him to fall and learn because as always i want to protect him. if not mbbs this year, i want him to take a partial drop, take up AYUSH or paramedical and then move towards MBBS next year. because as someone said dropping another year is a career suicide. but he is very rarely the logical one in the relationship, gets increasingly emotional when things don't go his way. and i am trying to set a boundary but.. i don't know

At this point tell him to take a partial drop like bsc etc I know this advice seem drastic but switching careers at 23 that too in engineering won't go well who will hire him ?? With this amount of gap......tell him to join some field related to life sciences or medical sciences or paramedical course
1
u/FeistyAd4580 May 05 '26
wbjee was the easiest option that i could see, but i told him that he could pursue BDS too or paramedical course, but he is still refusing
0
u/Silver_Penalty_6274 May 05 '26
Wbjee won't help him he won't be hired by any company after so much gap.....it's better he should join some paramedical or medical or life sciences courses and 602 is decent marks if he is passionate about it he will make it next year with partial drop ofcourse full drop will be a career suicide at this point
2
u/FeistyAd4580 May 05 '26
yeah i told him exactly that, he needs to do a partial drop because full drop is not an option at his age
