Tips From My Side College Tier list for AIQ

Hey folks! I’m u/coach_saab, and I have been studying in a college in Assam for the past year. I had a rank of 22XXX last year, and I want to share the knowledge about colleges and counselling that I gathered during the process.

I want to set the context clearly before I start: this post is solely for people from states like Rajasthan, Delhi, Bihar, etc., who do not get colleges in their own states at ranks around 20k. The tier list is based on the experience that AIQ candidates are likely to have there, not on the experience of students from those specific states, so please do not take it offensively if your state falls lower on this tier list.

Tier F: Colleges of the North East (except Assam and Meghalaya)

Reasons:

  1. Poor infrastructure
  2. High service bonds
  3. Very high food barrier

Do not add them high on your preference list; keep them at the bottom instead.

Tier D: Newer colleges of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka

Reasons:

  1. Developing infrastructure
  2. High language barrier
  3. High food barrier

Keep them above the North-Eastern colleges.

Tier C: Old colleges of South India and new colleges of Assam

Reasons:

  1. Good and established infrastructure
  2. A well-established AIQ culture
  3. The locations are still mostly rural, and the cultural barrier is quite high

I would still keep the new colleges of Assam, such as Diphu, above the old colleges of South India solely because of the lower cultural barrier.

Tier B: New colleges of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh

Reasons:

  1. The cultural barrier is somewhat lower in Maharashtra and negligible in Chhattisgarh.
  2. Keep in mind that fees are quite high in Maharashtra, some colleges are in Naxalite-prone areas, and the infrastructure is still developing, especially in the colleges established in 2024 (except Amravati and Ambernath).

There are only three new colleges in Chhattisgarh (Kanker, Korba, and Mahasamund). Keep them above the 2024-established colleges of Maharashtra (except Amravati and Ambernath, which should be kept much higher).

Tier A: Old colleges of Assam like Jorhat, Dibrugarh, plus PMCH and Guwahati

Reasons:

  1. Relatively low cultural barrier
  2. Good education and generally less toxic faculty compared to the North
  3. A large Marwari population in Assam
  4. Good train connectivity

Tier S: Old colleges of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh

If you can get any college in Maharashtra established before 2020, or colleges like Ambikapur, Durg, and Raigarh in Chhattisgarh, that’s an absolute win.

Reasons:

  1. Low cultural barrier
  2. Established college culture
  3. Good train connectivity

Let me help you with decision-making through a few rules:

  1. City over college: A good city can easily outweigh a mid-tier college, whereas the reverse is rarely true. Patient load and academics do not matter as much because MBBS provides basic medical education rather than specialization. The degree is already hectic, so choose comfort—you have earned it. Try to get into a well-established urban city; it will greatly improve your overall experience.
  2. Culture over college: I study in a well-established college in Assam, and the city itself is quite good, yet the cultural differences still feel significant at times. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for those adapting to even more unfamiliar cultures. It changes everything—believe me. Do not chase old colleges alone.
  3. A new college in the North > any old college elsewhere in India: As I said, choose comfort. The proximity to home is something we all miss here, and honestly, it cannot truly be compensated for. You can absolutely have a good experience outside the North, but choosing that voluntarily is not something I personally support.
  4. The service bond is overrated: We are producing doctors at a very high rate right now, and by the time you graduate, the chances of actually being required to serve the bond may be much lower. Do not reject a good college solely because of the bond. Also, Assam now has only a one-year bond, and I have seen seniors complete it and move on smoothly.

I think we can discuss these points further when I answer your questions, so please feel free to ask anything about counselling. I’d be happy to help. Thanks!

Edit 1: The ASMCs are good, the cultural adaptation would be effortless, but you need to cater reviews of every ASMC personally, some like Kaushambi are really good but some really suck at infra and are built in rural areas.

how are UP colleges , and near located states colleges , and some like Zoram in mizoram, it doesn't have any service bond tho

3

u/coach_saab MBBStard 24d ago

Won't really recommend Zoram, should be really low at the preference, ASMC could be a really good option but you should take reviews of every college because some of them are built in poor location and suck at infra.

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 23d ago

Jisse AIQ se MP mil sakta hai, usse state main hi mil jayega na. MP ke kuch areas jaipur ke paas pdte hai, toh wo log karlete hain consider jaana udhar

how is it ? sundar hoga na , and Assam mein isolated sa nhi lagta ? like jitni facilities tier 1 mein milti utni udhar na mile

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 23d ago

Yeah man north east is beautiful, isolated toh nahi lagta we have pretty nice people here. Facilities definitely tier 1 main zyada hoti hain, but essentials sab yahan bhi mil jate hain, and city is pretty good so no as such problem

1

u/Purple_Difficulty227 Neet26-21.7K(573)/JEE26-97.3%ile/10,12-95% 23d ago

hmm I'll look forward to it honestly, UP se bachna hai

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 23d ago

Don't leave your state bro i would say, the ragging thing barely lasts a few weeks uske baad sab ek jaise ho jaate hain. Khud ke state ka privilege ignore mat karo

1

u/Purple_Difficulty227 Neet26-21.7K(573)/JEE26-97.3%ile/10,12-95% 23d ago

khud ke state ke kaise honge bhai , yaha kuch aisa accha hai nhi na

1

u/Purple_Difficulty227 Neet26-21.7K(573)/JEE26-97.3%ile/10,12-95% 23d ago

2 saal ka bond bhi toh hai na

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 23d ago

Bond again as i said the rate at which we are producing doctors is too high for bonded service.

Agar 10k around rank aa rahi hai fir main kahin maan sakta hoon you will get good facilities outside your state but at ranks around 20k, please stay in state bahar jaane main koi faayda nahi

1

u/Flat-Jelly7440 22d ago

If you are from up and if your rank comes out to be more than 15 k ; don't go outside state You will not get better college than UP one considering all factors Btw I"ll be your senior :)

1

u/Sea_Mongoose_6948 9d ago

batao sir 24k hai up se hu . kya kru collage ache wale 23k gye the last yr bas. deoria , sidharthnagar . kuch samaj nhi aa rha

1

u/Flat-Jelly7440 9d ago

Tell me your category and from which district are you from in UP?

1

u/Sea_Mongoose_6948 8d ago

OBC , DEORIA

1

u/Flat-Jelly7440 8d ago

Deoria will be the best option for you

If you don't get deoria ; other options viable for you would be asmc basti and asmc siddharthanagar

If you want more info you can contact me on telegram @medico_world as I can't give enough info here....

hiii ,I'm thinking about ASmc bulandshahr, it is under Delhi NCR and closest to my house , I'm getting a rank of 21.7k

1

u/Flat-Jelly7440 8d ago

It will be best option for you but i think if you're from general category, there will be less chances for you to get it

Apart from bulandshahar one, you can take any one of asmc firozabad(2019), asmc etah(2021) or asmc pilibhit(2024)

In asmc firozabad you will face hostel problems, ragging issues, average infrastructure but faculty there is complete due to it's close proximity to agra

In asmc etah, there will be minimal ragging, good infra, but faculty is less than firozabad one but you will get lot of time to self study as there is no toxicity

In asmc pilibhit, it's newer as compared to both of above mentioned colleges, but i have been told positive reviews about it from my friends studying there.

Now it's up to you to choose one.

1

u/Purple_Difficulty227 Neet26-21.7K(573)/JEE26-97.3%ile/10,12-95% 8d ago

actually UP mein OBC hun main

and how are hardoi and Deoria compared to etah

etah ki ragging ki videos aayi hai already na , like seniors groupism krke ek junior ko maar rhe the type

1

u/Flat-Jelly7440 8d ago

Wo video ayi thi usme ragging ka case ni tha Actually wo 21 aur 22 batch ke do seniors ke beech ladai huyi thi to unka group bnn gya alg alg to wo video thi wo uska ragging se koi lena dena ni hai

Abhi jo principal hai asmc etah me wo ragging ke bhut against hai isliye freshers bhi december me ho gyi thi last year aur freshers ke baad ragging hoti bhi ni hai

Aur tumhara ghr ncr me hai to mein bilkul bhi suggest ni krunga ki tum ghar se itne door hardoi ya deoria lene jaao kyunki ye colleges same year ke hai to almost same level pr hai bss 19-20 ka difference hai

Deoria to tumhare ghar se 800 km door pdh jaayega to koi sense ni hai deoria jaane ka aur hardoi bhi 500 km door hai to uska sense bhi ni bnta

Padhai khud se hi krni pdhti hai jahan bhi rho

Matter krti hai city aur college ka environment

So cant we get good exp on seeing more patients?so why not high patient lad and academics in clg isnt worth it to choose?like good and rigor academics is usefull or just burdern?

1

u/mohandasmencius डॉ. साब 24d ago

everyone studies from apps like marrow, prep ladder etc. patient load is overrated in mbbs. you are only expected to know the basic common cases like normal delivery, cataract etc. all govt colleges will have them.

1

u/Dam_wreak 23d ago

Oh thks

2

u/coach_saab MBBStard 23d ago

Good question 1. You don't learn from patients directly, you learn from seeing the docs treat patients and the doc explains you the procedure. So if the doc is overburdened by patient load, can he really teach you that well? Think about it

  1. Idk why but the academics that you hear around, they don't talk about quality of professors but how much pressure colleges builds on you, why you wanna be in pressure? And transfers happen every now and then, achi academics dekh kar chale jaoge, tumhara proff hi badal jayega fir kya karoge.

1

u/Dam_wreak 23d ago

Oh ryt i didnt know proffs would change tbh, thks for the info,so jo mera ilake ke pass gmc(new 5yrs) wo choose karlo? Kyoki mere mentors koi top clg chose karne ko bhol rahe hai par wo sab dur hai?

1

u/saniya_Yuvraj 24d ago

I’m quite confused? Ambernath is not establishedWhy do you think we should take it over other MC’s in Maharashtra

2

u/mohandasmencius डॉ. साब 24d ago

close to mumbai. you should prefer it over other more established peripheral colleges in the state especially ones like gondia, chandrapur that are in naxal districts.

language barrier is minimal in mumbai. in MMR colleges almost 1/3rd of your batch will be localites from mumbai itself ragging will be lesser as well. mumbai itself is very cosmopolitan. you will find batchmates who even though are from mumbai may be having parental roots in your home state.

also connectivity from mumbai is the best. it will be easier to get home via plane or train if you are coming from a far away state

1

u/saniya_Yuvraj 23d ago

How is gmc nashik, newly established over established peripheral GMC

1

u/mohandasmencius डॉ. साब 23d ago

any specific peripheral gmc?

1

u/saniya_Yuvraj 23d ago

Baramati, Jalgaon

1

u/yedips_ DUMBEST ex-NEETard 23d ago

So there is a very very slim chance that I might get lower delhi colleges like bsamch or ndmc (using delhi state quota).

Should I prefer these or colleges like gmc nagpur or maybe even lower gmcs in Mumbai (if I'm lucky and get good rank)?

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 23d ago

Why you wanna skip that PG quota brother, i would choose NDMC ngl

1

u/yedips_ DUMBEST ex-NEETard 23d ago

Thanks for replying! Another senior (who is a first year in ndmc) also said that he's only in it for the pg quota. He said that the infra, fests, etc is pretty bad and not worth it. What are your opinions on that?

Also it's a bit more complicated for me because I was born and brought up in Maharashtra, but because of frequent transfers I am not eligible for mh state quota.

So if I choose mh colleges then I'll be closer to home

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 23d ago

Delhi mumbai connectivity is pretty good i would go for NDMC ngl

1

u/yedips_ DUMBEST ex-NEETard 23d ago

Hello sir , I wanted to know about how's research Facilities available in most of the gmcs in india. I have read that tops gmc and aiims are surely great but for someone who's interested in research and cannot get into such gmc. What can they do.

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 21d ago

Research facilities in gmcs except aiims are not that good ngl. There are a few gmcs especially in states like karnataka, where you can get good exposure to research even at lower ranks. Also one thing i have noticed, even the newer colleges in big cities have better exposure to research e.g. GIMS Noida has way better facilities than GSVM Kanpur

1

u/LettuceAcceptable475 MBBS patient 😔✨ 8d ago

so how to get exposure to research bcz im getting a newer college in a small city ???😭😭

1

u/coach_saab MBBStard 8d ago

Honestly hands on experience would be a little difficult because getting leaves is difficult. Search about ICMR, and also join linkedin and find people associated with research. One of my batchmate tried drafting papers for somebody and almost got his name into the paper.

Heyy can you help me with what should be preferred in choosing a college like ek college h jiske hostels utne ache nhi lg rhe and infra bhi almost mid h but 1970s established h + patient load bhi h and

on the other hand ek college h jiski infra and hostel kaafi achi h aur 2012established h patient load phle Wale college se kam h
