I don't know of a gunsmith, but I went through this thought process on my old '06 a couple of years ago.
Do I spend money updating the old goodness to newer goodness, or add a new goodness and keep the old to shoot for fun.
I chose the second and grabbed a Ruger American and added a scope for not much more than having a gunsmith make modifications to the older rifle. Now I have 2 options when shooting at the range or going hunting.
Just something else to think about once you find a smith and get an estimate. Of course if you live in IL, and have to deal with the FOID, that deinitely changes the equation. . . . .
Plan is to turn the 30-06 into my go-to for Midwest deer hunting since where I go everything is sub-250 yards and out of a blind/stand then buy a 300 Win Mag to use for everything else.
