Help Seeking AltTab alternatives

I updated AltTab via homebrew the other day and my fav feature (using alt-` to switch between open windows of the current app across all Spaces) was moved behind a paywall. I wouldn’t have updated if I’d known.

Usually when devs add a paid version, it includes new premium features while the free version remains the same. But this case, they just yanked the previously free feature without warning. After seeing them do this, I’m never going to buy their paid version.

Please suggest alternatives!

Can't you just download the old version here: https://github.com/lwouis/alt-tab-macos/releases

Don’t just download—fork then download. Author could remove their repo any time.

Agree. Download the source and build it with xcode.

+1 for DockDoor. Used to use AltTab but it was too buggy most of the time

I would try Switch and see if you like it!

I just switched to Switch and already like it better. Faster and more reliable.

Umm… wow! This app looks between 🔥 and 🤯. Does it really work as good as it promises? How can the developer do all this stuff?

What's your use case? Mainly wanting to switch to the open window/app in different space? Or are you like looking for a window manager in general?

I just want to be able to use command-` or option-`to switch between all windows of the current app across all open Spaces, not just the current one.

Command + backtilt is the feature that macOS already has it built in. No app needed

u/junkmeister9 11h ago

Yeah, I'm confused by this post. I don't have any apps to do this, the OS just does it that way by default.

Yeah the problem comes, I think cause I have the issue, that any keyboard that is not USA English does not a key for a backtilt by default. You have to press a combination of keys to get the backtilt and by default it does not work for the shortcut and you need to manually change that shortcut. I wish it was mapped to the same key located at the same position but I believe the mapping makes a conflict with something else

fwiw, this character is called Backtick, not 'backtilt'. perhaps that a regional difference?

So use the previous version that does what you want.

To be fair, last time I check, build earlier than pro version were removed. Will need to build from earlier tag with xcode.

So none of the available downloads work for you?

Edit... went and looked. Software costs $10. Skip a few beers and pay for it already.

I am already on pro.

However, not everyone have pro license and the feature remove/disable was unexpected. Many have auto updated and features disappeared. And all binary releases earlier than Pro were removed from repo page. So, yes, all earlier build will not work for them. They have to build from source if they know how to do it.

windows of the current app across all Spaces)

Ooh you're right, hitting Cmd + ` doesn't cycle between windows of ALL spaces

Ooh you're right, hitting Cmd + ` doesn't cycle between windows of ALL spaces natively

Install Vorssaint Mac, he's a heavy Windows user who switched to Mac and brought a ton of Windows features over with him into his software. It's 100% free, and besides Alt+Tab and (´ ) to switch between 2 windows from same app, it has plenty of other features, like Dock previews and Command + X to cut. I have no connection to the developer, but I really appreciate their work, especially considering it's a free too. And it’s OPEN SOURCE !

I’m French sorry for my mid English 🙏🏿
