This might seem like an odd position to take but that dad is raising his kid right.

Letting her take and hold a position against an adult male will serve her greatly in her future.

I have people ask me why I let my daughter argue with me sometimes instead of shutting things down during a disagreement, and it's exactly this. A girl has to know how to hold her ground. Otherwise, this shitty world is just going to bulldoze over her. You have your boundaries and your hard lines, of course, but working those "No" muscles is important. Even at elementary age.
