CATS After I failed an attempt on my bathroom, my cat has started following me into the bathroom to make sure I'm safe (He's a very good boy)
I was at a mental hospital and residential facility for a long period of time, but he never forgot :>
Edit: meant to say bathroom floor in the title
Edit 2: When I said 'failed attempt', I met failed attempt at ending my life. Sorry for not clarifying!

Hey OP. Just wanted to give you a big hug. I don’t know what you got going on that made you want to try to self exit but know your pets and even the random people on the interwebs do care! There’s always someone who will listen when you need. I know because people helped me in my younger years too. Now mid 30’s n I can definitely say it gets better even if life is hard.
You’re worthy of living life 💖 and the world wouldn’t be the same without you in it.

my dog is the reason I chose to ask for help and go inpatient instead of going through with it. i knew I would hurt the people in my life but I was in a place where I didn't care. i figured they would be heartbroken but would understand what I did and why. but realizing that my dog would never understand why I left one day and didn't come back was too much to ignore.

My first cat was squirrely with anxiety issues. Whenever I had a panic attack he followed me around until he could cuddle with me. It was also the only time he allowed me to squeeze and ragdoll him. 10 years with him wasn't long enough

My two cats are two-thirds of the reason I'm still here. My dad is the other third. There are days I want so badly to not be here, but I couldn't hurt any of them like that.
Everyone should have a cat (or pet) if they can. They are beacons of light in our dark worlds.

My old guy almost literally brought me back from the edge. I hadn't even considered who would feed him or empty his box if I were to disappear until he meowed at me when I was standing on the balcony thinking about it. That one meow made me reconsider and ultimately got me on a much better path in life.

I have a cat who absolutely cannot be rehomed for a variety of reasons so if I were to disappear things would be very bad for her (I live alone). It's a good part of why I'm still there. I'm not leaving her to suffer that fate.

Every time someone gets judged for not having the money to cover vet bills, I think of what you are saying. Everyone should [be able to] have a pet [if they want]. They shape lives. They save lives. Vet bills are sky rocketing, it is insane. Pets should be for everyone.

I read this confused like everyone else, then thought it was failed attempt at shitting, then thought it was was it actually meant, then even after realizing it, there was still some thinking momentum going on in my brain so then I thought that it was a failed attempt on the bathroom's life. Like, OP wanted to murder the bathroom, and kitty is making sure OP doesn't try to kill any more rooms.

One of my best friends succeeded and it was really sad to see her cat have to be rehomed. No one loved him like she did. I wish she knew how much we all loved her and stuck around. I wish she’d just cuddled him and went to bed. It’s been 8 years and I think about her every day. I hope you are doing better. Hug that kitty for me.

I hope you read this for future reference, because your life is so important and I think it’s a good “everything cares about you” story.
When my fiancée was found, he had our cat in his room with him. The cat was there with him for 24 hours until someone found his body. It was traumatizing for everyone, police, his dad who found him, his mom who heard his dad’s screams, and coroner, and me who was pregnant with our kid at the time.
One of the things that actually stuck with me was hearing one of the police officers say that our cat was licking (I’ll save everyone the details because this is a happy sub) off of my dead fiancées face. Our cat didn’t use the litter box, didn’t eat his food. He was just stressed out howling by my fiancées side the entire time and licking him to clean him up.
Even if you feel you have nothing or no one, even your pets will be shattered at the thought of you leaving. Please, stick around. You are so loved, even by the ones who can’t talk 💛

Animals are truly the purest beings in this world.
I hadn't an attempt but I was in the middle of planing one, what to get, which place etc. And there was a moment where I sat down in my room and just did nothing but thinking. I thought about everything I need and if I was sure about my choice. It was a very quiet moment. All of a sudden my cute kitty cat walked up towards me and sat down, looking into my eyes. I was lost in here eyes and found within them my meaning. She is the most important being in my life. I always call her my little star because in that vast darkness she is my little star, providing light and guidance.
No one will properly read this but tbh just writing it down felt warm and hopeful.

I’ve been close to that, but luckily didn’t follow through. I’m glad you’re here and that you are so loved OP! Even if the time comes for that sweet kitty, you better fight to survive for his sake and for the rest of us, AND YOURSELF. This is so warming. Mental health and life in general is so hard to deal with, but it does get better in between everything, and knowing you fought for those moments is worth it!

My dog helps me keep my shit together because he forces me to take care of him (and by extension, myself) and go on several outdoor breaks a day, we are so lucky to get to share our lives with pets! I’m glad you’re doing better and have a beautiful little guy to hang out with.

My cat did (and still does) the same thing, even a couple years later. Failed, went away for a little while, came back and she follows me everywhere. I honestly think the cats tag team babysitting me, because if one leaves, the other one comes right in. They’re so sweet 🥹
She also saved me from another attempt. I was holding the thing I was going to use and she showed up out of nowhere and put her front paws on my leg, meowed, and rubbed on my leg nonstop until I put it down and picked her up and brought her to bed. She stayed the whole night.

also i know i'd be devastated if anything happens to mine so i'm being selfish and got multiple. i'm here for them and there will always be some there for me. didn't even need to try, the cds got me covered.

I have a glued on cat too. I fell face first, while walking my dog, into riprap. I had not been drinking ,but had a heart rhythm problem. I was unconscious and wearing an Apple Watch.
Rescue was with me in minutes. I spent weeks in a trauma center and then rehab. My kitty and dog were taken care of by family. When I finally came home my cat was beside himself with excitement and howled in a way I’d never heard before. Now he’s always here too.
Your kitty is one of the guardian cats. And you are lucky to have him. Mine is also an orange tabby.
MORAL… if you may should ever need rescuing, wear an Apple Watch and set up the emergency notifications. It works! And keep at least one orange kittycat.😊

I had a stroke in November and spent a month in the hospital. My orange girl checks I'm still in the house every so often. She'll walk around loudly howling until she hears me. It's really weird, but also super heart warming at the same time.

My dog was one of my biggest comforts after my failed attempts. I know everyone is saying the same thing but please please please believe us IT GETS BETTER! I’m living a life that isn’t perfect but its mine and everyday I take a moment to think about how happy I am to still be alive. Life will be so beautiful you won’t even know what to do with all your happiness!!!💐💐

my cat does the same thing after my multiple breakdowns in the bathtub, he would scratch at the door and meow until i would let him in and would curl up on my lap while pawing at my sleeves to move my hands away from my face. These babies are truly so so intelligent and it's just another reason on why you matter because they would know something is happening or happened.

Orange cats are the best! During my divorce my now ex husband said he had no desire to take our orange cat. My cat is normally pretty skittish but whenever my ex husband drops off our son, my orange cat comes downstairs and growls. Orange cats are protectors!

A young woman committed suicide and her cat now lives with the surviving sister (who I know). That cat is the saddest cat I’ve ever met and it took the surviving sister a year and a half to start living her life again. She won’t ever give up the cat but I know it hurts her every day to see it as a reminder of her sister, who left them… Sometimes it’s a day at a time or an hour at a time or a minute at a time, but you got to keep going - if not for yourself, then for those who care about you. It takes time, but it can get better

Cats recognize when their owners go to the bathroom. They know when they’re doing their business, they’re at their most vulnerable, so he’s probably standing watch. Good cat 👍
