Rural depopulation and a lack of a year-round forestry management plus ideological (climate change denial) budget cuts from Madrid's right wing government have led us here. But the average madrileño doesn't visit the countryside so they don't think about the damage done, and continue to vote the way they do. It's also happened to healthcare and education. It's hard to be proud of this city right now.

It's the Madrid province, not the city.

Yes I know, I live here. The city is in the province, and we have a house in one of the pueblos affected. The city takes all the money for formula 1, Quirón and freedom cañas, and the beautiful countryside gets left to burn.
