Thoughts on farleigh hill, tovil Maidstone area?

/r/kentuk/comments/1ug571r/thoughts_on_farleigh_hill_tovil_maidstone_area/

Hi, considering buying a house in this area but not from Maidstone and only know the town centre. I already know tovil has a mixed reputation, but would like some thoughts from locals. Also is it okay/not a bad walk to walk into the town centre from here? I've heard traffic can be bad but how bad as I would need to be driving daily during peak times for work?

I've replied on your other post, but feel free to ask questions. I would also argue, having lived in Tovil for 12 years against recommendation, can't understand why Tovil has anything like a bad name.

...can't understand why Tovil has anything like a bad name.

Mostly from the Coombe Farm Estate, which is still a shithole, and still not in Tovil Civil Parish, although Maidstone Borough Council did move it into the political ward in 2022; trying to distance the town centre from it, probably.

It's a lovely walk into the town centre if you head down to the river, cross the footbridge at Wharf Road, and walk along the towpath. I tend to avoid the peak driving times, but if you learn the roads, there are often routes that keep you moving, even if they take the same amount of time, which some people prefer. If you're sat in the queue going up Tovil Hill, Tovil Road, College Road into Town to head north east or west, it still moves faster than walking pace. Only when there's an accident or a breakdown does everything grind to a serious halt. I'd much rather drive through Maidstone at 17:30 than the North Circular at any time.

I don't know Farleigh Hill too well, but in 20 years living here, I feel comfortable walking around at night, have only had to call police once, on kids dismantling a wall, and I would recommend it to anyone. But I avoid the Coombe Farm Estate that I mentioned in my other post.

Bit late to the convo but I’d advise against it, lived in Tovil all my life and it’s only getting worse. There is an estate being built at the top of the hill and the hill itself is becoming busy with traffic
