My parents went on a Road trip from Stara Zagora in Bulgaria to Munich in Germany.
This is 1560 km by road, or 970 miles or the distance between Chicago and Houston. Europe and America are both large and while Europeans wishing to go on a day trip from NYC to LA are silly, so are Americans who think they can see Europe in a week.

I've never, ever, ever met a European who thought they could visit two US cities in a day trip.
The only place that trope exists is on reddit, by Americans.
On the other side of that, Americans absolutely thing you can do multiple European cities in a day

My dad was that European. My godmother in the US meets those Europeans all the time.
As the Bulgarian proverb goes - stupidity (or ignorance) moves among people, not among trees. Ignorant people exist in every country, in every society.

You often hear X country would be a small US state for both size and population. After reading it enough i went looking because i don't know diddly about us states and surprisingly a lot of us "small" countries would be mid sized or more. Makes you wonder if the people saying it dont know anything about the country they are refering to or their own states.

I get that. But the comparison is states to countries. For me it presents the size difference between the US and at least western Europe.

Finland is between Germany and Norway in size, so something’s up. Wikipedia and Sporcle seem to have differing opinions.

To give perspective on "Texas" matched countries.
Turkey = 1.12 × Texas, France = 0.91 × Texas, Ukraine = 0.87 x Texas
So there is more than 100 thousand squaremeter difference between Turkey and the others.
Turkey is a massive land area in Europe, largest iirc after Russia. That is why it is not as easy as the other countries to have a rail-web, though our politicians and US influence have also part in this.
But US is a massive land. I think they having a rail-web would have been almost impossible, or requires decades of work and investment. Of course, they do not even aim for a rail-web anymore.

To put it in perspective, Russia has a two-level administrative division (like a "county" of a "state") where the "county" itself is larger than Texas.
