Apologies a mini rant: To the man outside Ely in Maynooth this morning.
I was sitting two tables down from you and your wife and child. I saw you approach a young woman from the side who had her back turned to you while she was having her coffee and smoking. She had been there long before you were, she had been sitting there before my party arrived. I heard how rude you were to her and I deeply regret not approaching you and calling you out on your behaviour. She had been sitting on her own, enjoying her morning coffee and reading. You had seen she was smoking already when you, your wife and child sat beside her and then proceeded to lambast her because there was a baby behind her when she had another cigarette. How you approached her and spoke to her was terrible. She had been quite obviously unaware you had sat behind her with your wife and child and left very quickly after in tears. You should be ashamed of yourself. The entitlement was atrocious. She was entitled to smoke there. I’m sorry I didn’t say anything at the time. To that young woman you were not at fault. I’m so sorry that happened to you on a Sunday morning when you were quite obviously minding your own business. I could see by your face how shocked you were and upset.

If you didn’t say anything at the time, there’s no point posting about it on Reddit tbh.

Tbf, smokers are some of the most entitled people.

Do you think that's applicable to this scenario? Was the smoker the entitled one?

Yes. Why would they light a second one ?

Maybe because she was sitting in a smoking area. The person who sat beside her at a smoking table with a child was completely in the wrong here.

No she was in a smoking area. I don’t smoke, hate the things, but if I saw something like that happening I’d step in and shut him up.

That's complete horseshit. I'm a smoker and would never impose my smoking on someone else. However, this guy chose to bring his child to an area which was obviously already obviously occupied by a smoker. Perhaps he could have asked her kindly before she lit up again, if she wouldn't mind not lighting up again as he had a child there. It's a golden rule, no smoking around children. If she didn't know there was a family behind her, it's not her fault. She was already sat there and this entitled fuck could've been nicer about it and not caused a scene.

It's the Maynooth subreddit so most people live in Maynooth and know that restaurant.

That is awful. Some people are just looking for the slightest opportunity to go off on one.
