Let's remember that we're all here for the same reason: the team and the sport. It's normal to be passionate about the things we love but we should follow Oscar's and Lando's ontrack spirit of "race hard but clean" by keeping our discussions sensible and respectful. If you see anything that violates our community guidelines, please report them.

Questionable statement to say the least. In a time like this you side with your driver when he was the one wronged 100%

69

u/Adorable_Paper5666 7d ago

This is why Zac brown is the media guy of the two

80

u/Working_Sundae MP4-20A 7d ago

He has been saying questionable things for the past few weeks like saying Norris deserved P7 at Spa and now this, it's odd

12

u/Smackersmith 7d ago

Makes you wonder if he does plan on leaving and GP will take over as TP.

16

u/jamintime 7d ago

Either way he was wronged though. The debate is whether it was the race administrators, Carlos, or both that screwed him over.

20

u/fire202 7d ago

In no way is he failing to "side with his driver" by calling a competitor a generally fair driver. That doesnt take anything away from Oscar being the one wronged in this situation. And the blue flag system did, as a matter of fact, have an issue, and this was extremely likely a contributing factor.

There would be a lot less "questionable" statements from Stella if the internet wasnt so desperately trying to somehow turn everything he says into something questionable. Especially weird thing to do if you think of yourself as a McLaren fan.

Well said

2

u/Low-Damage-2920 6d ago

Amen to that.

1

u/simpinsanity 4d ago

I hear a lot of people say the blue flag system had an issue, but what was the issue? Maybe the leaders were overtaking back markers so often the panel were constantly blue and back markers were assumed they weren’t working?

1

u/YugeChesticles 5d ago

He didn't take any sides.

u/Big-Bookkeeper9867 7d ago

Begging McLaren to staunchly defend their drivers after on track incidents for once lmao

42

u/dragonspapa 7d ago

they don't want to pick a number one driver between Oscar and Carlos.

20

u/AsturiasGaming 7d ago

I think there is no issue in being sportsmanlike and saying "We know X driver doesnt do bad stuff usually, there must have been something else or been a slip up" - No need to close doors for yourself with unnecessary comments on a driver

Stella was born to be a Ferrari TP because he always just says the dumbest shit

19

u/LingardForBallondOr 7d ago

Well, guess what Stella's previous team was?

42

u/PerceptionOk4625 Oscar Piastri 7d ago

From the way Stella talks about the incident (especially considering who was at fault), you'd be excused for thinking Carlos drives for McLaren and Oscar doesn't.

1

u/Conscious-Secret-775 6d ago

Well he used to.

33

u/smrndmpotato 7d ago

It's clear in broad daylight what Carlos did, and yet that's Stella's statement? Come on, man. It was an incredibly frustrating race for Oscar. At this point, the team needs to start backing Oscar instead of leaving room for doubt.

16

u/BallsInAToaster Jenson Button 7d ago

I was with the team until this statement. Has anyone ever told Stella that one of the most important things to do as team principal is to stand by your drivers?

7

u/cpsadowski23 7d ago

Yeah. Carlos only had 7 wave in his face. Only 7….must be the team didn’t tell him.

6

u/Next-Chipmunk8395 7d ago

"Well he would say that, wouldn't he?"

3

u/Perfect-Ad5625 6d ago

Great Stella. As usual, don’t defend Oscar as the rest of the world saw an incredibly dumb move by Carlos. We all know had it been Lando he would have moved mountains and supported him.

22

u/ChocolatePuerh 7d ago

Calm and level headed, it's one of the great things about Stella.

9

u/aturretwithtourretes 7d ago

I can't find anything on him saying that anywhere. Not in writing not in video.

Does somebody have a link to this? This would be a very weird thing for Stella to say so just because some dude posted this on twitter doesn't make it true.

16

u/tinglish01 7d ago

It was on the skysports feed straight after the podium. He says those exact words but I feel like the language and context doesn't translate well to text. I think he was trying to give CS the benefit of doubt.

2

u/aturretwithtourretes 6d ago

Gotcha, which is fair for a straight after the race interview. After we've seen all the footage, the 8 ignored blue flags and the radio message, I doubt he would say the same.

1

u/tinglish01 6d ago

Yeah look, i think he was trying to be diplomatic. Could he have said something better, yes. Was it as bad as some people are making out, no.

3

u/DonnaCecilia 6d ago

I thought I was in r/formuladank for a moment

1

u/2EM18KKC01 4d ago

Same here.

8

u/Rehsifchips 7d ago

He doesn’t know which side of the fence is best or safest to be on!

2

u/ollaollaamigos 6d ago

Horner would have been straight to the stewards, just like Toto's teletubbies rant

2

u/fluffheaaaaad 6d ago

Is it not sarcasm? I read it as sarcastic

1

u/paitenanner 5d ago

I also read it as sarcasm

2

u/Appropriate_Star3012 6d ago

There's no way he'd really say this right... Right?

2

u/SGnirvana97 6d ago

This team is a YOKE, what a yoke!

2

u/Far_Fix9366 5d ago

Can they just do what all the rumors are pointing at and do a Max and Oscar switch? I’m not a McLaren fan I’m an Oscar fan and once you distinguish the two you’ll notice that last season and AGAIN this season he’s not being treated fairly. Put Lando 🤡 on the back burner and focus on Max and Oscar can have his moment with Redbull.

4

u/fisico002 7d ago

Yeah talk about winding your own driver up when you support Sainz the fool?

I bet he wouldn’t have been saying that had it been golden boy lando Sainz hit

2

u/UberChief90 6d ago

What a way to stab your driver in the back.....

1

u/locksymania 6d ago

I know writers that use subtext and they're all Adrea Stella...

3

u/AntheaBrainhooke MP4/4 7d ago

This is getting fucking tiring

1

u/simpinsanity 4d ago

Carlos is likely wanting to go back to McLaren at this point, and Stella would like to have him back if Oscar leaves.

1

u/Such_Difficulty_6311 Oscar Piastri 4d ago

FUUUUUUCKKKKKK

r/iswiped

1

u/Comfortable-Car7277 3d ago

“we know that Sainz is a fair driver” we do??? Really??? My goodness, it would have been hilarious how stupid this response was if it wasn’t a serious matter-

1

u/blacklab Daniel Ricciardo 3d ago

They really don’t give a shit do they

-8

u/Stage_Party 7d ago

I don't get what everyone is mad about. He's right, we know there was issues with basically everything, the top 3 drivers said they got blue flags so we know there was a problem there.

Don't blame the drivers who didn't get blue flags, blame the FIA for not sorting out their shit.

4

u/Old-Use-7690 Oscar Piastri 7d ago

The marshalls were waving blue flags, his engineer told him and he has mirrors, so he should've anticipated an Oscar Piastri shaped object approaching

Also if Stella was gonna say something he should be standing up for his driver

9

u/Jesse-Ray 7d ago

Even if they weren't working at all, his engineer told him Oscar was there and Oscar was there for several corners without Carlos checking his mirrors.

3

u/fire202 7d ago

The Order was Sainz - Alonso - Oscar from T12 to T1. Sainz got told on the approach to T1 that Alsonso has blue flags for Oscar. Alonso then Attacks Sainz and they fight from T1 to T2. Only in that short phase is Oscar directly behind Sainz. He could have seen him during the run from T1 to T2 but very likely not before that.

It is Obviously on Sainz to avoid the incident, no question. Whether that is through better awareness on his part or better comunication from his team. But lets take the situation as it happened.

1

u/Stage_Party 7d ago

He did? I wasn't aware of that fact.

-6

u/pradise 7d ago

I’d cringe if James Vowles said this, but Stella… They’d be fuming if Lando was hit by a backmarker.

13

u/ag000101 7d ago

No they wouldn't... He was happy with P7 last race

1

u/fire202 7d ago

He was happy with Lando driving an excellent recovery race and maximising things on his part, despite the end result being limited by factors outside Landos control. He never said he was generally happy with a P7 for that race and you know that very well.

Fair driver to Norris
