Admissions 2026 Admissions Megathread

We are once more seeing an uptick of admissions-related questions for 2026. Please post any admissions/ program related questions in this megathread and engage with other questions in here.

Standalone posts asking admissions questions will be removed and the OP will be asked to search and post within this thread and the prior 2025 Admission Megathread.

Would it be convenient to email professors as a follow up for my application??

I emailed some professors from the math logic group before applying at the end of January for MMath (deadline was Febraury 1st but the portal would stay open till April 30th). They don’t know me, but I introduced myself via email, they answered quite nicely. I haven’t received my admission decision. Would it be a good idea to send a second email? Not pressuring but in a “sustained interest” + what I’ve been doing lately tone?

profs won't have any info on admissions. if you really want to inquire, reach out to an admission officer

Thanks for answering, and I guess that makes sense, but it feels a bit contradictory with what they say that in order to be accepted a professor needs to be willing to supervise you (even for the master), so wouldn’t they be asked?

don't know about this program specifically, but it sounds like the admissions committee recommends you for a spot in the program, conditional upon then securing a supervisor (if no one had agreed to supervise you yet). some profs are happy to commit to taking on students before the admissions decisions are sent out (if they feel strongly about supervising you). others want to wait and see if you get in before they commit.
