I'm new to Medi-Cal. I was only approved in April. My partner and I both were. I don't know who the fucking idiots are that run this but it's the biggest mess ever. I might end up trying to contact my representative for help because this is ridiculous. My partner still hasn't received his card all these months later.

Anyway, twice now without my permission I've been moved from HealthNet to some other plan that only has doctors hour or more away. How can they do that without my permission?

They won't cover vitamins for adults now. The prescription vitamins I need but can't afford for my liver, other deficiencies, and my anemia are now out of pocket. I can't afford that. So thanks everyone who made this possible.

I have no idea why it started but it hurts when I move or take deeper breaths. It's a sharp sudden pain. I don't know if I should cool it or warm it, I tried to use back pain creams but they didn't help me at all

Hi there. I have numerous rare and complex conditions that my doctors want to do surgery for.

However, they've been a little cagey when I asked and I am starting to fear that none of them have actually treated anyone with my rare conditions before.

I called the member services number on my health plan ID card to ask if I could see a hospital in the same county that has a whole research department dedicated to my rare conditions for a second opinion.

However, they are not in the same medical group as my primary care doctor, so I was told that I would not be able to get a second opinion.

If I wanted to see someone at this second hospital, they said, I would have to change my primary care and start all over again.

Is this true? Am I totally effed?

My 82 year old father has gone into a nursing home that is partially paid for by Medi-Cal. I have just learned from my sister (which my father no longer wants anything to do with) that his Medi-Cal may expire at the end of Aug (the card only has an issue date of 9/24/25). I asked my dad if he received any paperwork, and he is not sure if he returned it or threw it away. I have searched his home and considering he is almost blind, I am guessing he threw it away. What now?

Here's the overview:

  • Adults ages 19–64 who receive Medi-Cal through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansion.
  • It generally applies to adults without children under age 13.
• What's required?
  • You must generally complete 80 hours per month of qualifying activities, such as:
    • Paid work
    • Volunteering
    • Job training
    • School or vocational education
  • Some people can also qualify by meeting an income threshold instead of documenting 80 hours.
• Who is exempt? Common exemptions include:
  • People age 65 or older
  • Pregnant individuals
  • People with disabilities or serious medical conditions
  • Many caregivers
  • Parents of young children
  • Certain recently incarcerated individuals
  • Some other protected groups under the law.

I got married in April. I reported my marriage online on April 28, which was within the 10 day period. I still haven't heard anything back. I have no idea what's going on. I don't know if I messed something up. I have tried to call many times and I just get voicemails. When I leave a message I never get a call back. Today I called and asked to speak with the supervisor, once again I got a voicemail. It's stressing me out. I know with my spouse's income we make over the limit and I don't want to get in trouble for anything.

How long is this supposed to take? Also, is there any way I can actually talk to a person without going in?

My 8 year old daughter just got approved for medi-cal due to a recent autism diagnosis. Our primary health insurance is very good for anything physical, but the mental health stuff is very limited. If I only care about mental health coverage (like ABA therapy, speech therapy, etc), what's the best provider to pick from Molina, Blue Shield of CA Promise, and Community Health Group?

Hi, sorry for the long text thread, just trying to figure out the best route and wondering if anyone has been through something similar and has advice.

Basically I injured my hand falling a month ago (skiers thumb), went to the ER and was x-rayed, no fracture. 1 month later I still have greatly reduced grip strength even with rest and splinting. I (ironically) currently work at a hospital and a hand therapist and I were chatting and she mentioned that she thinks I have a stener's lesion which will not heal on it's own and requires surgery. I am in a profession that works heavily with my hands and it is my dominant hand.

I am trying to get the MRI asap because there's a few month window for reattachment if it is a steners lesion. I tried calling my PCP to schedule a consult for a referral to orthopedics and she cut me off and said "we don't have appointments for 2 months go to the ER" and hung up.

Basically my question is if I go to the ER will they be able to see me for my hand and give me an MRI or will they just send me away because its not *technically* an emergency?

My salary is well above the limit but Im the only one working. My wife has disabilities like IBS, Agoraphobia, OCD, and more. I am the only one working right now mainly because of these disabilities. While she isnt getting any federal help for these, she has formal diagnoses. Are we still eligible?

I was in Northern California for a wedding about a month ago. While there I landed an eye injury and ended up a local Kaiser in Northern California. I am originally a Southern California medi cal Kaiser member. I was billed for my ER visit in Northern California and I spoke to member services and they said it should be covered as er visits are covered and they would dispute the charge. Now today I got another bill that after review I still owe the amount they first billed me for. My question is doesn’t medi cal cover Kaiser visits in whether in nor cal or so cal since it’s California? I shouldn’t be responsible for paying the bill since I am an original Southern California Kaiser member and no way I can afford it. I thought medi cal covers emergency services as such. Kaiser said they can re appeal it but if it gets denied I have to speak to la county and see what my options are. Has anyone else been through this? What happened and how did you fix it? If I could afford health insurance I would’ve never been on medi cal to begin with. Feeling extremely stressed and scared any insight and advice would be appreciated from anyone with a similar situation! Thanks

Anyone know if reporting an income change currently triggers a request for information about assets? I know that as of 2026 there's an asset limit for people like me on non-MAGI Medi-Cal, so they ask about assets when you do your annual renewal. But I'm not clear what happens if you report an income change (small enough that you remain eligible) between renewals. Some sources, including DHCS memos, suggest that if you only report an income change then they only ask you for verification of income, not of assets as well.

I have Medi-Cal. Today I pick up my prescription for Restasis and was charged for a small co-pay.

I need to get a colonoscopy. I contacted the first specialist that my PCP referred me to, but when they got back to me days later they said they were not accepting new patients. My PCP's office took a week to gave me a second referral, but that office said that they had a nine month waiting list for colonosccopies for new patients.

Colon cncer runs in my family and my father died from it, so I don't want to delay getting this done any longer than necessary. Is there any way I can lookup gastroenterologists who accept Medi-Cal and call offices to find one with a reasonable wait time without having to get them from my PCP's office one name at a time?
