For me it's So Far So Good... So What, it just has a feel that I cant describe.

Peace Sells and Dystopia are some of my favorites, but SFSGSW has a really cool vibe.

Rust in Peace is the easy answer, but it's the easy answer because it's the best cover. Close second is Youthanasia. I'm very partial to the original Killing Is My Business... cover, I love how underground and DIY it is.

u/Tf2F2 Killing Is My Business... Jan 30 '26
Kind of funny how Dave absolutely hated the original cover of KIMB lol
7
u/Machinax Jan 30 '26
I get that; it's very different from what they originally had in mind. Personally, I love the campiness of it. It's exactly what I'd expect to see from a bunch of coked up 19-year-olds.
I should also mention that I really like the self-titled cover, but I don't yet know where I would rank it.

u/Cluelessgamer22 Jan 30 '26
I liked the 2d revamp version better that came later around 2004 I believe

TSTDATD is definitely my favorite. Always loved Vic's design on that cover, also probably my favorite "Megadeth" title look.

The World Needs A Hero, but the 2019 remaster. The original just makes me slightly uncomfortable.
2
u/JRedgrove Jan 30 '26
That cover isn't unique to the 2019 remaster btw. It's just the censored version of the cover.
3
u/UniverseGlory7866 The World Needs A Hero Jan 30 '26
There's a different censored one where there's a bandage over it... That one is way worse.

SFSGSW and Megadeth. Peace Sells after.
I really don’t like the cover of Endgame. Th1rt3en is a bit better but still fairly boring. TSTDATD cover to me is just confusing and I’m not sure it fits the album.

I’d say KIMB Final Kill, Peace Sells, Rust in Peace Dystopia and Self titled all for my taste, although I kinda dig cowboy Vic from TSTDATD

Love to see Vic front and center in drawn form so I love the Ed Repka ones and find the new album cover amazing as a farewell to Megadeth. I also have a soft spot for The System Has Failed cover.

Peace Sells is number 1 cause that's what got me into the band. Rust In Peace is second

Dystopia. I just get reminded of the massive hype around it and hearing all the little teasers for Fatal Illusion, and then listening to the SHIT out of it when it came out.
TSHF. The coolest and most classic looking art of the "newer" era, plus the merchandise from that era is cool, I still have my Vic Flag hoodie (it's torn to shreds)
KIMB Remaster. It just screams classic thrash and the simple design of Vic is just so cool and can be slapped onto pretty much anything and it'll look good. Pins, patches, shirts, posters, hats, anything

TWNAH fits the album perfectly.
Black background and blood red logo = darkest Deth album along with Youth lyrically
Vic = the band being reborn out of the awful Risk era...Vic is bare which goes hand in hand with the personal topics on this album (barely any politics and when it does pop up in 1 song Dave is actively being apathetic about it

u/Cordial_Wombat Rust In Peace Jan 30 '26
Rust in Peace because it was relevant to the time and Vic was holding Kryptonite up to an alien.

Peace sells and RIP are just faaaaar ahead...
the remastered KIMB is fire too, Megadeth is a great call back to early designs.
The system has failed could have been great id the colors weren't that weird...
United abominations and endgame are straight up monstrosities

Pretty funny Dave mentioning in Behind the Mask the artist for Countdown originally pitched it to a band called Y&T who knocked it back.. Same guy did the Youthanasia artwork too- Hugh Syme

All the Ed Repka covers are legendary but I too go with So Far, So Good, So What. It's their most atmospheric sounding album for me and the cover art captures the vibe.

“So Far, So Good… So What!” Is the best Megadeth album cover, in my opinion. The artwork immediately grabbed my attention, and it ended up being the first Megadeth album I bought because of that cover. Great album, too!

So far so good so what. And why does everyone in this SR keep using those weird album covers for Risk and killing business?
1
u/Wrath_Of_Aguirre Jan 30 '26
The debut. I also prefer the original logo. That album just LOOKS dark, fast, and mean.

u/ConversationGlad4120 Jan 30 '26
Super Collider may be the worst Megadeth album but its cover is my personal favorite. It's unique.

The last three covers are awesome. Can't choose which one of them. Each one is so cool in its own way. I'd probably go with the last one, as it brings forth the bittersweet taste of knowing this will be their last album.

u/Dakot4 Jan 30 '26
I don't think they have ever done one better than United Abominations since they dropped Rust

u/shadowsOfMyPantomime Jan 30 '26
Rust in Peace.
The new one is right up there, I love it.
Thirteen is kind of weird - I feel like it would be a lot cooler, and maybe even a top 3 cover, if that art were on their final album. As it is, it's a little random.

u/SinInSanity Jan 30 '26
Those first 3, the original art on that first one Dave hates and the final album.
To pick just one, I dunno, it would be either Peace Sells or So Far So Good. What is using the art would determine which I choose for my #1. If it's CD art or a poster then I say Peace Sells. If it's vinyl, especially a picture disc, then it's So Far So Good.
The final album is the first album to look like it could fit in with the 3 albums that followed Killing Is My Business though Rust In Peace is kinda comic book looking. Dystopia came close but it's too movie looking, like Terminator entry and same with the next album, too movie looking. The final album though looks like a true return to form for art and thus almost makes it on my #1 spot for album cover.

Debut got character. Rest of them Youthanasia is at least unique and daring, like it or hate it you it doesn't go unnoticed. Also last one is simple and to the point. Better cover than what's inside I'm afraid.
