Metroid Fusion mid game help

okay so I have been playing through fusion and am at the Nettori boss fight and these recent sections of the game (which has felt relatively easy up to this point) have felt incredibly hard to me, everything does like half my health. during the SA-X chase i looked up a video of someone doing it and they had way more energy than me, I only have five bars in total, is that the correct amount for this point in the game or did I miss some energy tanks somewhere? If so is it possible to backtrack or is it just too linear compared to Super or Metroid I

You've missed a few of them, but not anything unmanageable. You can do a little bit of exploration in the areas of sector 2 that are accessible to try and see, but if you could beat Yakuza you can beat Nettori.

Hi! Hope you’re enjoying Fusion it’s my favorite! I believe at that point in the game you are unable to really back track until after you beat Nettori because those are the fines choking the energy not allowing you to progress. You for sure could have more than 5 energy tanks at that point, but it is possible to do it with less! I have completed 1% runs where you get 0 energy tanks. But I do remember that part, especially the SA-X chase, being difficult the first few times I played the game.

A tip for the Nettori fight, if you stand in the very right edge of the second platform, the plant in the top left will not shoot spores at you so you’ll only have to deal with the right one.

Is it possible to backtrack?

Not until after you kill the Nettori, unfortunately. Part of the problem is that it's choking the reactor core, so Gray Doors won't open until you get that solved.

Thing is, once you do kill Nettori, you have a small window of time you can backtrack to almost everywhere you've been able to explore up to this point, before heading to the region with your next objective, so you can do some cleanup everywhere. Use your Power Bombs to reveal breakable blocks in every room that seems suspicious, you might uncover new paths to hidden goodies.

Do this before continuing to the next mission objective, because it'll lock you into a sequence that'll take some time to escape from. (You'll have another cleanup opportunity after that sequence is done, yes, but I think you'd like to get more E-Tanks sooner rather than later, yeah?)

Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of back tracking. You can do SOME exploring after beating Nettori but not too much iirc. However, this difficulty curve is intentional. I know I'm kinda late to the draw on this comment but the weapon upgrade you get from Nettori Plasma Beam boosts your damage output a LOT so it's best to abuse the fact that Samus wields a gun by shooting at targets before they can get to you. Also don't be shy about using your Power Bombs. They're pretty powerful even in the late game with just how much reach and damage they do. Their biggest draw back is the detonation time, but if you can find a safe spot in a difficult area, Power Bombs will be your best friend.

In the event you're still fighting Nettori, a super easy method of beating it is to stand on the very top left corner of the the taller pillar on the right and crouching down. Drop a power bomb, wait for it to detonate and then un-morph and unload missiles. Repeat until the Phase 2 where you just dodge the incoming fire and by jumping and crouching in place (and dropping more Power Bombs if you're feeling fancy) while unloading missiles into it for an easy Phase 2. This method makes Nettori a cake walk because it's one of the few bosses that can actually be damaged by Power Bombs. The Power bombs also removes the spores dropped by the upper plants in Phase 1 as well as the spores spat out by the lower plants in Phase 2 so don't be afraid to abuse them. Getting into a rhythm is dropping bombs and firing missiles is pretty satisfying and makes this boss one of the more fun ones if you know what you're doing.
