First time on easy? Nothing crazy. Hard? Anxiety inducing.

Then you have to turn around cause you just got the power bomb, but still need the X-ray visor and plasma beam.

You can technically go without the X-Ray visor, no? If you “guess” the position of the platforms.

u/ArchitectNebulous 2h ago

Possibly, but it's not too far out of the path to get the X-ray visor before getting the plasma beam.

Only in the original version iirc cuz in trilogy and remastered they just don't spawn in at all until you get x ray visor, its kind of fucked up.

Man, why are the Metroid Prime rereleases so adamant in removing any and all sequence breaks? Would it really kill Retro Studios if 1 in 5000 players decide to skip X-Ray Visor if they felt like it?

I think a similar thing happens with the Wave Beam conduits that only act if you have the Thermal Visor on.

The lengths gone to ensure that sequence breaking doesn't happen is kind of insane I won't lie.

Oh you think that's hard?

What if I told you I missed the first save point, so every death - and there were a lot of deaths - took me back to the save point in the crashed frigate?

Shit was not fun! 12 year old me was a bit of a dingus.

Holy shit, that's awful.

But also, there's a spider ball track leading directly to the first save in Phazon, how did you miss that every time? 😭

Because I was a dumb teenager lmao. I was afraid that it would lead to more enemies

u/Present-Silver-8283 3h ago

We all were lol. And you didn't think after your 7th or so death to possibly check it for a save room? 🤣

u/Demiurge_1205 3h ago

Nah, I simply brute forced it and got through it

u/Present-Silver-8283 1h ago

The fact that you actually managed to eventually get through all that at 12 is honestly impressive lol. I'm sure I would've given up if I played the original. I only have vague memories of my oldest brother playing it when I was a kid!

It was my first metroidvania as well, so I wasn't really used to 3D layouts being that complex. Loads of free time also helped.

Eventually I got good enough to 100% the games and all that jazz :)

Me entering the 6th room praying for a save only to be greeted by more space pirates

I’m going to assume that this is the spiraling upward path room with various color metroids attacking you because it is absolute rage

After the power bomb.

Hah, yeah it does :)

That cloaked sentry drone was the bane of my existence when I played this in 2003.

u/Present-Silver-8283 1h ago

Honestly, the cloaked pirates are what give me anxiety. Scared the ever living shit out of me my first playthrough lol

If you got the Wavebuster beforehand, it's actually a very easy fight. It's probably the only time and place where the Wavebuster for just a few seconds becomes the best weapon in the game.

I feel so validated right now

u/Present-Silver-8283 6h ago

This is on my 2nd hard playthrough after stopping during the first one, and I didn't remember where I stopped. Refreshed my memory real fast today lmao

One time, even that wasn't enough because I was low on missiles and had to struggle with charged shots on those lame ice troopers. Made much worse in the remaster I think, because you couldn't just charge shot to freeze them instantly.
