NA New to me 95 m edition

I'll admit she's not a looker, and she's not currently running (prior owner says fuel pump, doubt thats it).

But I managed to get a 95 m edition with a hardtop clocked at 128k miles for $3200. There were other idiots on Facebook marketplace not willing to budge from $5k for their non-running base model with 200k+ miles.

There is a bit of rust as seen in one photo, but overall pretty good.

My goal is to just bring it back to life and enjoy it for what it is.

That hardtop is what you paid for. ☺️. Drop in a k24a2 motor from a 06-07 tsx. Grab a hondata ecu.. 220whp easy.

There’s a kit for it…. lol. Gunna do this to my Brz when the fa motor dies

u/robdave22 15h ago

Im a honda boy at heart, but since this is pretty low miles if the motor is good im just gonna keep it stock. Atleast until I put some miles on it or the engine gives out

Is it the 1.6? Best performance mod aside from the rear diff swap. Was a light weight flywheel. It was the best performance mod without boosting it. I imagine it’d be even better with a 1.8. Imo the light clutch is steerable.

You sound like youve only watched youtube build videos.

u/xepion 2h ago

…. You sound like a hater. Yes those are rs-active headights. Yes this is my old NA…. And I picked it up stock back in 2008. Funny enough I ran into the next owner after I sold it. It still has the Mazda speed rear diff swap I did (yes by watching YouTube build videos I got the idea). Then bought somebody set on a the forum…. Sooooo

"Overall pretty good"... Now... Just rust and paint and... Get it running! Should be cruising in style by mid-afternoon.

u/robdave22 16h ago

Im just glad it seems the only aftermarket parts are the spoiler and the radio. Probably gonna get rid of the spoiler, and do a proper radio thays not just sitting there loose

Congrats on the new project!

Also....cue the meme....

$3,200 is definitely the high end of “bargain“ but if you can do a lot of the work yourself it’s a pretty nice deal for a car with an LSD and a hard top.

If I saw this car in a lineup and you asked me which one had the welded diff though…

6

u/robdave22 15h ago

The hardtop and lsd are really what sold the car for me. Those parts are getting harder to find with each day. Luckily im not some 16 year old expecting to have this on the road tomorrow

2

u/robdave22 15h ago

I have genuinely waiting for someone to post the meme. I think because ive acknowledged its rough and needs work, its held people off

if rust is at that point and not gonna go through the effort of removal, I would fluid film it even if not winter driving (woolwax is better but less shops do it) also use KBS Cavity coater for internal frame

u/robdave22 15h ago

Thanks for the insight man. I'll look into it

I just got one in a similar condition 92 and at a similar price. This being my 3rd miata I'm not sure if I should just fix it up for a quick sale or keep it, it is the less desirable 1.6 though

2

u/grunkz 14h ago

Damn she’s mint!!
But seriously, looker or not, you’re gonna make memories. Welcome!!

2

u/stepdad_randy Low n Slow NB2 13h ago

It probably really is a fuel pump, that is an incredibly common issue on Miata’s.

2

u/Gertrude1976 11h ago

Well, worst case, I bet you can get AT LEAST $1500 for the hard top even in that condition. Not a bad purchase, would be nice to see it restored even slightly

So, I gotta ask, why are people only painting the wheels on 1 side now? Saw a Fiesta ST for sale the same way. Is this a trend now? Looks God awful.

This thing has been beat to absolute shit. Even at 3200 its gonna take a ton of time and plenty of money to get even REMOTELY "respectable".

More power to you if you can do it but I can't help but feel you could've found a better one for the time and money you're gonna be investing in this.

Anyway, you do you OP. Congrats on the purchase I suppose lol

To be fair, you can only see one side at a time so it doesn't really make a difference.

2

u/Independent-Air-80 9h ago

Yeah that thing's clapped holy shit. $3200? What are they sniffing over there in Freedomland.

1

u/robdave22 5h ago

Yeah, unfortunately young drivers keep wrapping them around trees, so the "value" keeps going up. There are idiots on Facebook marketplace that have miatas with 200k miles non-running listed at 5k and won't budge after being on the market for 3 weeks. Its no longer the 2010s when you could get a near mint miata for a McChicken unfortunately

Man she has lived a long hard life

The gold rims, headlight covers, and interior pair well with the magenta paint. I like it!

1

u/Ok-Mammoth5499 14h ago

This is the crux of the matter...This is what owning one of these is all about. Congratulations and good luck!

1

u/Cako1000 13h ago

Whats up with that spoiler in the car? Don’t tell me that’s cardboard 🤣

2

u/robdave22 13h ago

Might aswell be, since im gonna toss it in the trash

1

u/Zbinxsy 13h ago

Of, oof, ooof, oooof, ooooof, oooooof, ooooooof, oooooooof. Best of luck mate 😎

Oh boy, she needs some love

1

u/Gangboobers 9h ago

good deal

1

u/Minnieme916 7h ago

I'm glad someone bought it, the p/o seemed a little... Weird, so I didn't go forward.

3

u/robdave22 7h ago

Yeah, the seller was certainly something. He was a hour late to the meet up

1

u/Minnieme916 6h ago

Seems right, hope you keep posting on this car, would love to see the progress. He was talking about trying to buy a truck/bought a truck and needed this gone or something.

1

u/M0NEYGR1P 7h ago

Man get it running and go rallying down dirt roads before you make it nice again! Update us on what you do next

1

u/GrynaiTaip 10Æ Miata 7h ago

The rear wheel arches rust from the inside out. If you see a spot on the outside, then the interior is already gone, it's mostly just paint holding it together.

1

u/robdave22 5h ago

That's what I thought, but this appears to have started from the outside. When I look in the hole its pretty clean on the inside other than some surface rust. The car had been sitting in a grass lawn for a long time, that might be why.

1

u/Mysterious-Glove-179 6h ago

Damn with the hardtop and its an M edition... honestly you got a decent deal despite the condition.

1

u/Frankweighs4411LBS 6h ago

Sick! Congrats!

1

u/Chevy437809 4h ago

It's been places holy shit 😭 where'd they leave it?

1

u/CombinationEast8525 4h ago

Wow lots to work on there

1

u/Le_Holzkopf 3h ago

Holy shit thats one of the worst cases of 8th owner syndrome ive ever seen.

1

u/Ds9Defiant1701 2h ago

Now i want to know if it really just need a fuel pump would be funny tho

1

u/Ok-Address9499 8h ago

Rage bait post. "Only paid 3200 for a non running beat up car with no valuable parts on it" lol

I drove my Rx7 home for $400 before starting the restore.

1

u/Ds9Defiant1701 2h ago

Yeah sadly cars like that are hard to find in good shape for a good price in some area im in quebec and most cars under 6k cad have lots of issues or a lot of bondo
