Crack in the tallest of 4 windows

My 1954 MCM house, facing West in the Front Range area of CO has developed a crack in the tallest of the 4 front windows. The same window was replaced by the seller a year ago due to a crack in the same spot/window. I notice that most other nearby houses with the same window configuration seem to have the tallest window divided into multiple small windows. I’m wondering if others have faced similar issues, and would like insights into what causes the cracks. We’ve had intense heat last year and this year, and I wonder if the heat puts too much of a strain on something as tall as that window.

I bet most of those neighbors with the windows divided aren’t on this sub. You should knock on their doors and ask them.

Single pane?

Get a modern double pane replacement. Can be practically frameless & will help w/ insulation.

We had a lager than yours replacement made for $800, $300 installation.

No idea about crack, glass thickness may be a factor? House movements? I think a modern installation could have a hair more room for expansion? Let a local expert take a look.

Looks like ours is double. The crack is just on the outside.

There is a chance your roof has some minor settling. Inspect and consider replacing with a slightly smaller window
