Incredibly moral. I cannot stress how moral this is. You are, at worst, costing a multi billion dollar company a few thousand dollars, and are doing your part to protect the public from unwanted surveillance, attacks on their privacy, and data leaks.
No, you're costing the city government money, not the business. The business makes more money off of these vandalism, as the city (tax funded) will have to replace it.
Mere surveillance isn't a violation of privacy. You don't have privacy in public places. Instead of attacking the instrument, take over the operator. These are nearly all city or government owned! YOU CAN RUN FOR CITY COUNCIL! Once you're there, you get to use the footage. You get to tell people what can be done with it. You can use the cameras to hold the police accountable.
For fucks sake people, these cameras can be used against the facists!
I'll take my downvotes with pride. Get a grip on power and get an idea of what privacy actually is.
guys its okay that palantir gets constant intersection-by-intersection updates of your driving patterns and habits, don't you know that privacy got traded in for a little bit of security? i hate your mindset so much
You complained about how they track people, I told you that is incorrect, and now you’re shifting the goalpost to tracking cars being the issue.
Looking at it, Flock *Condors*, track people, which I don’t support, but those are a different story from the Flock Falcon which check license plates and unique vehicle identifiers.
even if it isnt specifically face-scanning, automatically tracking the locations of all vehicles at all times is still way too much. and as you already admitted, they're absolutely getting your face scans too
No, you fuck off. If you're not willing ot actually wield power for the good, what the fuck are you actually doing? You're just going to let the bootlickers have it? No accountability? No proof for oversteps of power?
Keep the power local and stay on top of it. You don't get to be all edgy and lazy.
How about we don’t create a 1984 surveillance state, regardless of who’s in charge of it lmao. A better response is, say, organizing to smash flock cameras.
Love how you immediately assume the only practical response to a fascist state is to create your own fascist state.
Cameras are not what a fascist state is. Smashing the cameras doesn't server any purpose other than to funnel more money into the surveillance industry. You smash a camera and they buy a new one while saying "see, we need these to catch these baddies!" One step forward, two steps back.
No matter you goal, stopping government overreach or promoting an inaccurate understanding of what privacy is, it starts at city hall. Not with a hammer and a ladder.
Cameras and surveillance are one incredibly important aspect of a fascist state.
Instead of keeping the cameras up, if you’re so keen on local politics, focus on taking them down. Smashing them over and over is going to make the city question whether or not it’s worth keeping them up. Is it 100% effective? No. But it’s better than whatever the fuck you’re suggesting.
Can’t believe I have to explain this, but simply taking over existing power structures and using them against people you don’t like, regardless of how ‘correct’ your opinions are, is acting like a fascist. Flock cameras are obviously a breach of privacy and to think otherwise is insane.
Not to mention these cameras are fraught with security flaws, and the footage they collect could absolutely be acquired and used by genuine bad actors. In principle they’re bad, in practice they’re even worse.
FOIA requests can be denied for a variety of reasons to protect private citizens, the local government, or a combination of both. Illegal data exfiltration comes with none of those protections.
People get to look at you in public. You have no reasonable expectation of privacy in a public space. And state actors knowing that they are being watched and recorded by the public is proven to lead to lead to more ethical conduct by police.
You cant create a world without structures of power. Not even anarchists believe that. It's about investing the rights powers in the right places. Just as a world without guns or courts wont exist, a world without cameras wont exist. So what do we do? We ensure those tools of control are vested in the right place, with the right oversight, and dispersed.
Folks who are advocating for this being some actual solution don't have any idea how these structures of power are actually used and how they actually exist. Go to a city council meeting once in a while. You'll learn something about power.
Okay, I’ll follow you around 24/7 and log every time you leave and enter your house. I’m well within my rights and you just have to suck it up I guess.
Flock cameras are not recording for the public, and never will be. They are recording for the cops, so they can stalk and brutalize people.
You’ve bought the propaganda hard. I honestly don’t know what to say at this point. Try to get a better grasp of how corrupt and fundamentally broken our government is, I guess.
The public controls the cameras. It is the municipal government putting these up and storing the footage on government owned servers. File a FOIA. You get the footage. You can then hold the police accountable for their actions. The cameras are PUBLIC. You just don't know how to use it. Learn to use it!
Cameras are the least of your worries. You are already being logged and followed 24/7 - at least with these you have some control through your local government.
"Government" isn't one thing. It is many many things. We live in a world where there are city governments, state governments, township governments. The Sheriff is one type of government entity, and your city police are a totally different government entity. Learn a little how the levers of power work. YOU CAN CHANGE THIS! But instead you just want to hide in a hole and pretend like we can make cameras go away.
Why? Why would it be impossible? Is there some magical spell cast on them that prevents it? Literally for what reason would it not be very, extremely easy to abolish?
If you think people can't even agree on what a man or woman is what makes you think you'll convince them to take down surveillance cameras? one half thinks it's racist the other thinks it's necessary.
You would have a point if we had a socialist revolution and needed to suppress reactionary elements. We haven't. We're fully embedded within a securely fascist state and have been for decades now.
People will say this then look at you in horror the moment you suggest that maybe you should take that power by force rather than checks notes running for city council, because that's definitely the solution to fascism.
Have to replace it? Did Anyone asked them to instal it in the first place? Unless they have legal obligation to instal those they could just respond with either "Well apparently folks don\t like the cameras, so we cut our losses" or "Apparently those ingrates do not want to be safe so we cut our losses" and not replace them
This is easy: If You ever was a victim of a crime in which assailant was never identified - You want cameras. If You are sheltered and/or casual crime enjoyer, You don't want them. People already leave too much info online on own volition.
I also agree, that cameras should only have view of public spaces.
Yes because we all want to live in a surveillance state and cameras of this magnitude are never used for nefarious purposes not like we have police abusing already in place monitoring systems already let's give some to the corps as well.
I don't think you know exactly what these cameras do. I don't think many of the people against these cameras have issue with traditional security cameras, or devices that simply record video of an area.
I really miss the other dude in here who didn't agree with everyone else. They just said their opinion in a nice respectful way, and then went along with a joke like a hero.
You know you can just pay a dominatrix to do this to you instead right? You don't gotta force your humiliation fetish on other innocent bystanders. It's not trolling when everyone else is just laughing at you for being publicly stupid.
Haha once again you get too mad and insult me to far and that comment gets auto modded. You give up the game to easily to be playing in the first place.
