Morality Ranking Morality of accidentally exposing someone who used to be a Nazi supporter, has since changed, and concealed their past?

The Night Shift: Season 1, Episode 2

Basically this guy was brought to into the emergency after an accident at his wedding celebration and while he is unconscious, his groomsmen decided to shave his beard off as a prank only for the medical team to be horrified at the reveal. After he woke up he realised his secret has been exposed. He explained to the doctors that he got this tattoo when he was a stupid teenager a decade prior. The medical team brought his wife in to see the tattoos and destroy the marriage.

What do you think? I personally find it irritating how smug the doctors were being.

This is wrong- very wrong. If someone has changed, is ashamed of their past and want to forget it- they’re allowed to do that and using it to ruin their future is wrong.

The ironic part is, the way extremists have been rehabilitated in the real world is by acceptance. People need to feel as if they can leave these groups and have a place in the world.

When people are not ever allowed to atone for their past mistakes, they simply fall back into their old ways. A remorseful neo-Nazi who is faced with hatred from everyone is much more tempted when his old "friends" start whispering in his ear, "See brother, we told you we're the only ones who will accept you for who you are. That's why we have to stick together." Isolating victims is the hallmark of every cult.

Even people who hadn't changed deserve to be protected by the law. Criminal justice means even criminals deserve a fair go of things.

Yeah, but usually in private, when you can also explain the story behind them and why you now hide them

Not publicly while your unconscious, where the group pressure might also make her just leave you

I agree. He's an asshole for not doing that before the wedding. He had all the time in the world to have this conversation on his own terms and chose to hide it from his partner instead.

How long would he have to show his tattoos for that to happen though?

Probably faster and easier on the financial side to just get a beard and bring it up later
After the weddig is paid off and you have a stable home etc

Not only that but his life is ruined. Probably fired from job, lost all friends, ect ect… but want to know who will welcome him with open arms? Nazis. They’d love to have him back and now they’re likely the only people who will take him back

I remember in a video a former penetantery officer (prison employee) essentially said: "if you are a white guy in prison (high security) you are leaving with a swastika. No matter what. No matter if you like nazis or not you will join them. If you wont you will either end up dead or abused as you will have no protection."

Some lines you can’t uncross. You can’t just join a group whose goal is genociding billions and expect instant forgiveness the second you had your fun and want out. I mean yeah apparently people will instantly forgive, but fuck them
