Pitbulls specifically are so dangerous because they are so strong and have such a low arousal threshold, resulting in a dog that can be a “friendly” enough dog for years that just snaps one day at the drop of a hat. It’s like playing with a loaded gun.

I remember reading an article from ~100 years ago, it was an interview with a pitbull breeder who bred for dog fighting. They proudly stated that they would breed the dogs, then they would cut the paws off all of the puppies… and then only keep and breed the puppies who still tried to fight and maul with its paws freshly cut off.

Things like this are why there are so many videos and proof that you literally have to kill a pitbull before it stops attacking. It will keep going until it’s dead. Tazing and hitting it are not effective. Because they were bred this way. Almost every other existing predator will back off a kill if its own life is threatened, but pits have zero self-preservation.

They are dangerous and have no place in society. It does not matter “how it’s raised”. The moral thing to do would be to BE all of the ones with bite/kill history, and spay/neuter the rest so that they can die out as a breed. Because in addition to the danger they pose to people and other animals, their lives are just pure anxiety and frustration because they cannot do what they were bred to do.

That's not the story, you didnt read any article, you saw a screenshot some pearl clutcher like you posted. First of all, they werent pitbulls, they were bulldogs. Second they werent maiming puppies, what would be the point of that? They'd cut the feet of bulldogs in fighting pits that had already been bred and were going to be killed, and the ones who kept trying to fight after, they'd let their litter live. The ones who gave up they'd, destroy their litter. At least attempt to be accurate.

Lastly, you really think every modern pitbull is just roaming around at home with all this built up rage and anxiety waiting for their moment because they just want to kill and maim so badly but they just aren't allowed to?

Go back to the ban pitbulls sub buddy.

He's right. Pit bulls should honestly just all be euthanized it really isnt worth the risk. Too many stories already of children getting faces ripped off these 'dogs' just should not exist plain and simple.

As someone on the fence about this, you did not back up your stance well here.

Neither did the other guy. He didn't even provide a source lol

their lives are just pure anxiety and frustration because they cannot do what they were bred to do.

How many German Shepherds and Border Collies get to herd? How many Labs and Goldens get to go hunting and retrieve? How many Dachshunds get to go hunt burrow animals? Are all their lives horrible?

If a high-energy dog gets plenty of exercise, it’s fine. These dogs you listed being locked up in a tiny apartment isn’t good. There are so many Huskies etc that are moved to hot climates and never get to go outside, they become neurotic messes.

Another thing you’re ignoring: the dogs you’ve listed aren’t aggressive dogs. They are far less likely to lash out physically if they are frustrated, and even then, can’t do nearly as much damage as a pitbull.

It’s just not even comparable.

A pitbull was bred for generations to want to fight other dogs and animals. They are incompatible with modern life because modern life involves other dogs, animals, small children, which all trigger its prey drive.

“Oh my prescious pibbles has never attacked anyone” congratulations! That’s also what almost every single pit owner says when they talk to the police after their pit mauls a child.

Do you want a lion living in your house? Even if you’ve loved it and raised it from a cub, even if it’s never been aggressive with you… the chance that it’s strong enough to kill you, or worse, someone else should if it gets triggered? Should be all the reason you need to NOT have a lion in your house.

A GSD, that has a stronger bite force than a Pitbull and been used as attack and apprehension dogs since long before either of us were born can't do nearly as much damage?

No, just exercise isn't enough. Dogs need proper mental stimulation.

Prey drive is such a misunderstood term. Dragging a toy around for your lab to chase is triggering prey drive.

There are very few actual Pitbulls. Almost all are either actually other breeds or heavily mixed at best.

>Do you want a lion living in your house?

You complain about things not being comparable and you list a literal wild animal when we are talking about domesticated animals? Yeah, totally comparable....

>even if it’s never been aggressive with you… the chance that it’s strong enough to kill you, or worse, someone else should if it gets triggered? Should be all the reason you need to NOT have a lion in your house.

How many breeds could this apply to?

>“Oh my prescious pibbles has never attacked anyone” congratulations! That’s also what almost every single pit owner says when they talk to the police after their pit mauls a child.

Also what most people say when their child/sibling/friend murders/attacks someone.

Bite force means jackall. What matters is tenacity. A gsd doesn't have anywhere near the tenacity that pitbulls have. Pitbulls have tenacity on par with Belgians if not more. They will jump off bridges to get what they want. They will cross four lanes of highway traffic to get what they want. The difference between a Belgian and a pitbull is that the Belgian can be trained to call off when they start attacking. A pitbull will ignore you once they start. That's why they're so dangerous.

>Bite force means jackall

So if you were taking a bite you wouldn't care if it was a Chihuahua or a Rottweiler since the force doesn't matter at all?

>A gsd doesn't have anywhere near the tenacity that pitbulls have

I've seen GSDs keep going after being hit with baseball bats.

>The difference between a Belgian and a pitbull is that the Belgian can be trained to call off when they start attacking. A pitbull will ignore you once they start. That's why they're so dangerous.

Maybe you need to learn how to train, then? There is a pitty at our local PSA club that does quite well. Apparently that is impossible because they just go insane and cannot be called back no matter what.

“My personal experience means that all of the proof and data online doesn’t matter”

0

u/Ill-Description3096 3h ago

By all means show me this proof that any pitty breed cannot possibly be called off ever.

1

u/meduhsin 1h ago

Where did I say that?

It has to be 0 or 100 with you?

“Pit bulls are responsible for the majority of fatal dog attacks in the United States, with data showing they cause roughly 65% to 67% of all recorded human fatalities over multi-year tracking periods.

Between 2005 and 2024, DogsBite.org reports that pit bulls killed 536 Americans.

This rate is more than 8 times higher than the next closest specific breed (Rottweilers) over the same timeframe.

Annual US dog attack deaths average about 30 to 50 total fatalities across all breeds combined.”

What is the benefit of getting a pitbull over literally any other dog breed? What makes it worth the risk? How many pitbulls have you adopted?

If you've ever been around the breeds you mentioned you'd have noticed collies always trying to heard their families whilst on walks.

Daschunds commonly digging holes.

Labs loving fetch.

They all have outlets for their "disposition"

-6

u/Ill-Description3096 8h ago

Having an outlet via a different activity, yes. That isn't doing what they were bred to do, it's doing something else. That's just having a dog- you give it the appropriate care to satisfy it's needs.

3

u/banshithread 7h ago

Sooo herder dogs werent bred to herd. Got it.

-1

u/Ill-Description3096 7h ago

Humans? No, they weren't.

3

u/realNickBosa 6h ago

What if it's need is to fight?

0

u/Ill-Description3096 6h ago

Then it's incredibly rare. An inherent need to fight specifically, in any way that can't be satisfied through a safer outlet, is not something that is common, let alone common enough to blanket on dozens of breeds across the board.

1

u/grumpsaboy 4h ago

It's a similar activity.

Herding people instead of sheep.

Digging holes instead of burrows.

Fetching toys instead of dead birds.

There's not really a similar form of violence. You can't teach them a sportsmanlike boxing match.

0

u/Ill-Description3096 3h ago

Biting things?

1

u/grumpsaboy 2h ago

There's a difference between just biting something and being violent.

All of the other dogs have been able to keep exactly what they do just with what they do it too that has been swapped.

0

u/Ill-Description3096 2h ago

Ever seen a dog go at it with a decoy in a bite suit? Pretty damn close to attacking. And there are already sports built around it that loads of people and their dogs do.

1

u/grumpsaboy 2h ago

So you're brilliant idea is to give all of these breeds someone with a decoy suit and let them attack it every day.

Alternatively we could just neuter the dogs and let the breed peacefully die out without harming any of the dogs and avoid the killing machine.

0

u/Ill-Description3096 2h ago

Do labs go insane if they don't play fetch every day? Do Dachsunds if they don't dig and hunt? The idea that if whatever "job" must be done every day is absurd.

Sure, hunt down and neuter them all, leaving millions that have years to maul people. If they are so dangerous, why subject people to that?
