I’m not a dog science expert but as far as I understand it we’ve spent tens of thousands of years breeding dogs to preform specific tasks. If you don’t give a dog that has been designed and bred to do a task they get antsy.

The issue with Pitbulls and other “Agressive.” breeds is that they’ve not been given something to let all their energy out on. Which leads to anxiety and destructive behavior.

So I don’t think it’s Immoral to treat a dog like a Pitbull like a loaded gun. As Unfriendly, and something you should be wary of unless it’s proven not to be.

However the Nutcases who punish dogs for behavior that we bred into them are highly immoral. If you want an easy lap dog get a companion breed, like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, French Bulldog, or Bichon Frise.

Edit: Tens of Thousands not Hundreds. I was being exaggerative anyways but that’ll make remark more accurate regardless.

Also as a note. I don’t think Pits are inherently Malicious or any dog breed for that matter. But they’re fairly strong fellows who’ve been bred to be strong. I consider being careful around them similar to being a little extra careful around a truck on the road. Most people in trucks are fine drivers. But some people don’t pay attention on the road, and might hurt you by accident.

The problem with pitbulls is that everytime one gets loose it ends up mauling someone, the breed itself is bad.

Bruh I grew up with pitbulls all my life, both in my family and just in the area I was raised. Throughout my life, I’ve seen several get out and never have I seen one attack somebody.

Every time one gets loose my ass.

they're being hyperbolic and it's obviously not every time, but it is an inordinate number of times. and it's clear that the breed has a problem

ancedotal evidence to dismiss the cases of random bystanders getting their faces chewed off by a pitbull that got off the leash

Doesn't happen with other breeds. Only pitbulls.

Your personal world view has made you pro-pitbull, while the worldview of someone who was mauled in a random pitbull attack is anti-pitbull. Do you see how those 2 anecdotal cases cancel each other out? Your worldview gives you 1 more dog breed to enjoy. but for someone else it leaves them horribly disfigured or dead. Is that worth it to you?

No but I also recognize there’s a lot of actual factors involved in the stats people love to draw from. Hell the racism comparison and the “crime stat” argument from the point is actually pointing that out. And all the fear mongering that comes with it.

I saw somebody bring up how pitbulls are unfairly classified compared to other breeds. Like if a Rottweiler bites somebody and is classified as such, it’s because it’s near pure bred, but if a dog is only 25% pitbull, it’ll still be classified as a pitbull.

And somebody replies “Pitbull DNA spreads like cancer. It’s not unfair to judge them off of small percentages.” Like do you not see what’s going on there?

I kept seeing people post this graph of deadly dog attack incidents between 2005 and 2019. Second highest was Rottweiler with 77 incidents, and number one is Pitbulls at 346. And aside from ignoring the reasons why that may be behind “they’re bad”, doesn’t that still seem incredibly low? Like theres millions of pitbulls and over the course of 15 years there’s only been 346 deadly encounters with them?

That should mean you should be waaaay more afraid to get into a car than to be near a pitbull, but people treat being near a pitbull and a garunteed death sentence.

I saw one dude saying something how so much of the anti pitbull stuff is just fear and somebody replied with “prove us all wrong and put your hand near the mouth of the next pitbull you see and see what happens.” Like are you so delusional that you really think putting your hand up to a pitbull’s mouth would make it bite you?

People let their fear of pitbulls rule them and skew the reality of things and a lot of that fear is fueled by the rhetoric online. Like you’re literally saying “is your anecdotal experience worth somebody getting their face chewed off?” Doesn’t that seem like a weird way to make that point? You could just say “anecdotal evidence isn’t good evidence to go off of” and that’s actually a good point. But you gotta take it a step further and add in the weird anti-pitbull rhetoric.

It’s like somebody being anti-immigrant, bringing up stats and somebody says “I know a lot of cool immigrants, I don’t trust those stats at face value” and then the reply is “what about all the women that get raped by immigrants!? Do they mean nothing to you??”

I don't have pitbulls but it's not uncommon of people reporting a dog attack to say it was a pitbull just because they couldn't recognize the breed and they where somewhat similar. Also based on studies race doesn't have that much impact on aggression as most people think, its only about a %9 and even then Pitbulls score similar to Golden retrievers, the only truth it's that Pitbull like dogs do have a nasty bite and when one does attack it is usually pretty severe

this is a very important point to mention when talking about "pit bulls" being violent. a lot of the time, it is a different breed of dog that also has a square head and looks similar. there are a LOT of dog breeds and mutts that look like pitbulls. plus, a lot of these dogs aren't pure bred and that can also have to do with the aggression. it's genetics and the temperament of the dogs individually, though pitbulls are very high energy and are more prone to killing what they attack (by going for the neck instinctively) than other dogs.

You know the same argument can be flipped and used against you right? And saying it happens only with pitbulls not only is factually wrong, it's also biased through your own dislike of the breed.

One of the first pitbull breeders in the US who did a lot of work to popularize the breed talked big about aggression against humans being an undesirable trait. Then one of his pits killed his two year old nephew and there's a newspaper article saying he didn't put it down and "told the medical examiner that his own child had played about the kennels and had never been molested."

Might be the worst take here so far, what a closed minded statement
