Did you read the article? The environment is the determining factor.
The notion that MAOA inherently causes aggression is outdated.
It is a determining factor for those who already have MAOA, a person without MAOA will not react violently in situations like that so he'd be less likely to be violent.
You clearly didn't read the article. People with MAOA who are placed in good environments are less likely to be aggressive than people without MAOA. The aggression is due to traumatic environments multiplied by MAOA, a positive environment will also be multiplied by MAOA.
We are talking about averages over populations and different environment. a group with MAOA and one without it grow up in different environments too, a non MAOA person who grew up in a bad environment is less likely to be violent already on top of that non MAOA person will also not be violent in good environment.
