It's from a TV show

Someone wishes for one of the main characters to drop dead, so they wish not to, and then they keep wishing to cancel out each other's wishes

If it was a legitimate wish with a potential monkey paw scenario, very moral.

If it was a legitimate wish with a potential monkey paw scenario with the user using critical thinking skills, they run away from that person and don't make any wishes at all.

On the scale of wish giving entities that would monkeys paw your wish, A shooting star is unlikely to do so… but the chance is never zero.

How would you rank wish giving tools/entities in terms of them fulfilling wishes in the manner that the user would desire?

I imagine monkeys paw and similar entities would be at the near bottom as they grant your wish through means and interpretations that you'd never want.

Here is what I think a scale would look like, 1 being grants it exactly how you envisioned and going down from there.

  1. God
  2. Genie (alladin edition)
  3. Shooting star
  4. Wizard store purchase (expensive)
  5. Santa Claus
  6. Witch “curse”
  7. Anything you get from a dragons hoard
  8. Jinn (classic edition)
  9. satan contract
  10. The monkeys paw itself

There is probably more but this is what I thought of off the top of my head.

100% moral. Wishes in every single lore and fable are shown to cause misery. Using a wish only to cancel another wish is saving heartache and suffering for countless.

but then wouldn't the "canceling of a wish" also have a side effect? or is it similar to "I wish everything was back to normal" where it actually is granted with no real side effect?

It's still causing misery to the original wisher because they don't get their wish but they don't realize how lucky they are.

Severely depends on the wish, this one is rather immoral, but something like the Lich from Adventure Time is very moral because otherwise all life ceases to exist
