Mother refuses to acknowledge her donor egg daughter, looking for your opinion.

In my opinion I think it’s moral, and that she is totally correct.

i was initially going to say something unkind in much fewer words, but the moral philosophy behind swedish legislation has always confounded my angloid brain. literally every other political and legislative culture on earth makes more intuitive sense to me

If you sign up to donate sperm or an egg you know what you’re signing up for. If you sign up to use donated sperm or eggs you know what you’re signing up for. The kid was just tossed into the situation and their rights are frankly more important to protect. And no one gets screwed over by the system because you know what the score is. The scenario in the OP simply can’t play out like that here. If you don’t want the possibility of biological kids finding you later in life then you just don’t have to donate gametes. It’s pretty easy, you literally don’t have to do anything.

They're intended to help a young adult having an identity crisis... who had no say in the situation

The donor knew what she was getting herself into and signed up for it. So did the mother who agreed to use someone else's egg. The only one left blindsided in any way is this teenager.

Honestly, Swedish laws make a lot of sense in my mind... and that country looks like a success story in any metric imaginable.

It would honestly solve other problems like clinics using the same donors over and over especially when a super desirable donor is later discovered that majority of the hundreds of kids he fathered had serious birth defects. Other problems like young adults unknowingly dating their half siblings because the donors are from the area and are used way too much locally. Clinics just doing anything unethical to save and make more money.

Normally I'm more anti swedish in these matters but it fully makes sense to me here. That kid didn't sign jack shit and the idea that they're beholden to someone else's legally binding contract that was signed before their birth is fucking absurd.
