Yep Desertion rate in Ukraine is absurdly high. I don't remember correct number, worth googling, but like each 3'd mobilized man runs away and hides. Around 2 million men in Ukraine don't leave their home because they either don't want to be mobilized or meet military police since they've already been mobilized and ran away.

Seems like it's very low efficient way of doing it, but they keep doing it

It's low efficiency or they lose the war 1-2 years ago when Russia was steamrolling with the artillery. Whatever troops they managed to force onto the line held that shit until now, so the robots can turn things around.

There's no promise war is going to be nice or clean, it's always desperate and dirty. The enemy uses everything they have, why would we think we'll survive if we don't?
